I used to use Names4ever.com to look up domains fast. But when I try to view the whois information it asks now for me to enter a code that is displayed visually. And even if I enter the number each time it will block me out after the 2nd or 3rd time. The same type of things are happning at Allwhois.com and Betterwhois.com Can someone give me a good domain site that doesn't deal with this BS and displays accurate and fast information???

I am looking up only a couple by hand at a time so it's not high volume.

I found

True Whois (http://www.truewhois.com)

So far works great.

I will try the link you sent too.

Yeh True Whois seems to work great. I just changed some DNS information and it was updated right away but the BW site wasn't.

I'd also like to know of any other sites that rival what WHOIS.NET used to be.

I've found a few like:

Netcraft and
DomainSurfer

but they don't seem to compare at all....

Any others i should try?

But then truewhois.com is NOT able to penetrate GoDaddy's whois database. (Neither does bw.org though.) In other words, it is only showing very limited information such as registrant name and servers and that's it!

'Sam Spade' is a free graphic network tools shell that runs on Windows. I've been using it for years. It's easy to find with a search.

http://www.swerl.net/whois.exe if you want to do whois queries via command prompt.

Copy that to your c:\(windows directory)\system32\ directory and then you just use it in the easy to remember syntax of "whois domain.com" .

use the builtin whois command on *nix based systems

if you cannot get into a registars whois, one of the first 4 lines shows the whois server you should be using

when the appropriate argument, you can penetrate the whois server to retrieve the appropriate information.
