I just bought a dedicated server package which is in the process of being setup. The website I have usually sends out around 10k-20k emails every night. All legit verified opt-in emails. The dedicated server allows me to select from multiple optional software to have installed and setup free of charge. From the volume I will be sending out, plus during business hours staff members are sending emails out every other minute from 8am to 8pm I was wondering what you guys would pick as far as software for my situation and what is best from your experience.
I will be running Coldfusion 9 / MSSQL Server 2008 on a Windows 2008 Server R2 Dedicated Server with 4gb Ram, 1500gb HD, and Intel Xeon 3110 (Dual Core)processor. Site receives 7-8k hits per day and emails coming in and out ranges around the 10k-20k mark in a 24 hour period, sometimes more but very rarely.
My question is - What Antivirus is popular for a web server? Free would be great, but if there is a industry known one for a webserver, I would like to know your opinion on it.

We use Microsoft Forefront Client Security. It catches tons of stuff.

I would be very interested in finding out how you use the AV and what is the most important thing (apart from detection of course :) ) that you look for in your AV.
thanks

Good question.
Although I tend to be more worried about malware and security holes.

Hello. My advise for you use a CLAMAV

CLAMAV works well.
However, why do you feel the need for an anti virus to be installed? In nearly every case, viruses are caught through the installation of a bad piece of downloaded software or the user browsing the internet using IE.
On a server, you should never be A) Installing random software and B) Browsing the internet.
It's good to have one installed, I guess, but you shouldn't *need* one if you're smart about your usage.

I was thinking the same thing, you don't need an anti-virus solution on a server. Maybe a firewall solution, or something like mod_security, but having anti-vir s/w running is useless at worst and performance robbing at best.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition protects data on servers running under the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems (including x64 versions) from all types of malicious programs. The product was designed specifically for high-performance corporate servers that experience heavy loads.

Nearly all security soliutions have trial editions so you can test the security solutions (anti virus, rootkits, spyware or all in one etc) and after verifying the ones which does not slow your box, you can select the cheaper one within the reputable ones.
Every Win server box needs antivirus. You never know how a security hole in a dynamic web site allows malicious code to be uploaded to the server. Beside McAfee Total Protection is a good choice based on my experience.

As already mentioned above, CLAMAV is a nice choice, but hopefully you're doing to much that will bring potential viruses in like browsing the web on your server and such.
But yea, I've used CLAMAV on a few :)
