Hello,
I've seen a few budget Live support programs (powertalk.com, sitechatter.com, livechatwizard.com etc.). All seems to be working alright except from using "slow" servers. I understand why, so don't need some smartass saying "you get what you pay for" ;)
Anyway, I am just curious if there are any budget solutions using servers in NAC or something like that. I have no really use for this function, except that I think it would be fun... therefore I'm not interested in paying more than $10 per month.

:D Seems to me that you answered your own question... you only want to spend $10 per month, but don't want slow servers or crappy software. Let me think about that.......... Uhmmm, NO! LOL "you get what you pay for"

Why can not top quality products be free of charge? ;)
Was thinking that perheps someone had an anlternative for non-commercial web sites, limitations when it comes to number of calls or something like that.
Anyway, not a big problem for me.... :stickout:

I don't know why there are not more live chat programs that run on your own server instead of using some company's server and getting charged a monthly fee....
In fact... are there any at all that can be run on your own server? Shoot... i've got some extra time.. maybe I should code one up. :D

the only reason they run on their servers is so that they can charge you a monthly fee ;) of course they feed you a lot other of information such as instant updates and so on.... but the real reason is they want to hold you by a noose so that they can charge you. Try www.chattist.com. I bought 2 licenses for 2 domains during their promotion. It's not as feature packed, yet.... but I have high hopes it will evolve to be as good as liveperson... and best of all, you get to install it on your servers. =) Now that means your service is all within your control.

I think an open source chat program that runs on any server is in order! :D hmmm.....

i would be willing to dedicate some time to it. We should start a group, and put it together. Kind of like www.unitedadmins.com did with some of their projects. Whoever has the knowledge, and the time, just comes forth and offers to help. : )

I've got some free time, and can probably do the whole thing myself, but free help would be great! :)
What are your coding strengths?

Host it yourself, or host it with them. PHPLiveSupport.com. Their support sucks, but their product rocks! I use it for all my sites and it works great. They are always coming out with updates and it only costs $100.
Best value I have been able to find!
