I've been looking at cheap cloud servers but most are more expensive than using a dedicated server. The only cheap one I can find is 1and1. Can anyone recommend some others for me.
Thanks

What configuration are you looking for? eSupun 07-15-2010, 06:30 PM Have you tried giga-international.com? They have amazing packages. But the setup fee is higher than others. Wizzo 07-15-2010, 09:06 PM Giga looks like the one. Thanks MannDude 07-15-2010, 10:00 PM Checked out the Giga-International website and didn't see anything about Cloud. Also, with a WhoIS lookup I didn't find any information: http://whois.domaintools.com/giga-international.com Maybe domaintools is having some problems, but its not displaying anything as far as their record goes. Their V-Servers are too good to be true, so I would proceed with caution. EDIT: First three WHT reviews from Google for Giga-International are displayed below... http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webhostingtalk.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D572861&ei=bL0_TKKMBY6gsQPkrKH8Bg&usg=AFQjCNFe6A-DVxDKb6QmzGkFBsnl3wFHGA&sig2=GaiGFILzKhM0T-KwUZPXYw http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D961666&sa=X&ei=bL0_TKKMBY6gsQPkrKH8Bg&ved=0CBkQrAIoADAA&usg=AFQjCNG7MQJSDe7nJezIsnXmmx4oZgvhHg http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D956533&sa=X&ei=bL0_TKKMBY6gsQPkrKH8Bg&ved=0CBoQrAIoATAA&usg=AFQjCNGKEazWmjiHGRde0XkZU9IrNP19RA ZKuJoe 07-16-2010, 12:59 AM GigeNET is one of the cheapest I have found @ $10/month. TheChemist 07-16-2010, 01:11 AM I personally would have to recommend VPS.net if you want to get your money worth. Either liquid storm or vps.net ZKuJoe 07-16-2010, 03:16 AM When I previously used VPS.NET it was a nightmare. Whenever I adjusted my resources it was a minimum of 30 minutes downtime which was unacceptable. :( eming 07-16-2010, 03:18 AM When I previously used VPS.NET it was a nightmare. Whenever I adjusted my resources it was a minimum of 30 minutes downtime which was unacceptable. :( yeah, initially we (vps.net) forced a disk-rebuild as a part of an up/downgrade. We changed that months ago though, and now up/down scaling of resources are instant, and can even be automated using the autoscaling feature. :) D ZKuJoe 07-16-2010, 03:21 AM Thank you. I remember when I was using your service you had mentioned that the disk-rebuild was the cause and was being worked on but I had not read anything about that being implimented. I may consider picking up some space in your UK cloud when I expand my services. Wizzo 07-16-2010, 07:45 PM GigaInternational is very cheap but there are too mant bad reviews for my liking. A 1&1 cloud server is looking good for me. Its £5 per cpu core / gb memory / 100 gb space. If anyone know anything similar in price do let me know. Thanks Chris-WS 07-16-2010, 08:01 PM http://www.rackspacecloud.com/ maybe? they are offering very cheap cloud services. Wizzo 07-16-2010, 09:11 PM 4gb ram @ 160gb space for $175. They are mega expensive. Can buy two dedicated for that. ZKuJoe 07-16-2010, 11:59 PM 4gb ram @ 160gb space for $175. They are mega expensive. Can buy two dedicated for that. You can buy 2 dedicated servers for that but will you get the same features? What kind of scalability and redundancy will you have? Even with 2 dedicated servers with 1 setup as a failover it's still not the same redundancy you'd get from a cloud. Wizzo 07-17-2010, 01:58 AM I want to be able to setup a server which I can upgrade the resources as and when there is demand for it. Although there are advantages to using cloud based servers I don't see the point in paying 4 times more than using a dedicated. RackSpace 1 GB RAM 100 GB Disk 1 TB Bandwidth $249.80 Even the Storm Cloud is cheaper, but thats still thats expensive. Storm 1.7 GB RAM 150 GB Disk 1 TB Bandwidth $120.00 ZKuJoe 07-17-2010, 02:04 AM That's fine, everybody has their own opinions and for me the benefits are definitely worth it. :) CloudWeb 07-17-2010, 09:24 AM I want to be able to setup a server which I can upgrade the resources as and when there is demand for it. Storm 1.7 GB RAM 150 GB Disk 1 TB Bandwidth $120.00 Cloud just costs more.. it's not just some servers running making this "cool" environment. When we went cloud this year, my cost per server went up about 250% as many parts of our infrastructure cost went up with it. So I would fully expect good, true cloud, to cost more than dedicated. It's a whole lot more than that. The server, network, storage, software infrastructure, etc all have to be able to support it. Heck, our edge switches alone are an $11K investment per cloud we're building (approx 22 servers). Storm being half the price of Rackspace is a bargain. Expecting another half of that and you should expect to see a serious cut in quality, and it may not even be true cloud. If you're wanting reliable redundancy and all the fancy features that cloud has the ability to offer then it's going to cost a few pennies. :) Cheers, myhostcorp 08-11-2010, 06:17 AM I subscribe to CloudWeb. Managing a cloud is much more expensive than dedicated servers if done wright. We are also developing our Cloud solution and we see that our costs are getting higher and higher. There are not just servers, there's the whole infrastructure to get this running as it supposed to be. I look at other companies which are offering very cheap cloud solutions and I tend to believe that they are not giving a real cloud infrastructure. In cloud, you pay for the features, not for the quantity as you do for dedicated servers. Although there are advantages to using cloud based servers I don't see the point in paying 4 times more than using a dedicated. A well designed cloud is expensive. We deployed our own private cloud and I will be the first to admit it was expensive to deploy. The advantage of using a cloud is the level of uptime you can achieve. With a single dedicated server, your sites will be offline when you need to work on the hardware in the dedicated server. With a cloud, you can simply live migrate things off of the hardware that needs to be worked on. There does not need to be any downtime in a cloud for typical hardware maintenance. For example, I can swap out motherboards, CPUs, memory, hard drives, and so on without taking any sites offline because I run everything inside our own private cloud. |
