We are looking to get some new lines. We are looking at UUnet, Leavel3, Verio and Cable & wireless.
We have Verio now and are upgrading that line but we are adding more. We are going to run BGP. So far verio has had about 100% uptime. We do have UUnet but at his point fed up with them. They go down at least once a week on us.

So i wanted to take a Vote on who is the better one. I know UUnet is one of the bigger ones but man they are starting to suck.

Would just like a idea on who every oen think is the best. Also if you knwo where we can get a great deal on a good network foe T3's and up please post it as well.

It might be worth checking out either Qwest or Globix. Or even GlobalCrossing.

An e-commerce company I did some consulting for uses Global Crossing (its Australian branch) in my city for its co-lo, and service/security/support has been consistently phenomenal for the last year and a bit.

Global Crossing is like the UUNET of asia right? they are a paaain!! atleast from here in India.. they always have major packet losses when going to VDI :(

Well Global Crossing is a big provider, and every provider has their faults.

We had Global Crossing at our old DataCenter and had all kinds of problems so i think i will stay away from them. Right now we have verio. I thought they would be a pain in the ass but have never had one problem. But we need some back up lines is more less what these lines will be for verio. Right now we use Verio and UUnet as back up but UUnet is down so muc if verio did go down UUnet might not be up when i need it the most..LOL Thanks fo all the in put. Not sure who we will go with yet. Talked with Level3 today.. THey sound good for a back up and there networks looks good as well.

kunal gblx is equivalent to UUnet in asia , i think.

I just talked to my dad today and he told me, they only got a few machines left (i think 208.178.12.34) at gblx -l.a,they moved all their machines in alchemyfx

I would take cable and wireless over any of those.

Outstanding company.

I would also take Yipes over PSInet and some others on that list.

I've been watching problems with glbx and AT&T for the past 24 hours or so... Neither one is in my good books right now. AT&T are probably the poorest of the lot in my eyes.

We have used pretty much all of the big ISP's for transit and run BGP with all of them.

Cable and Wireless is probably the best connected, but they shafted us twice, continuing to bill us after we decided not to renew our contracts with them due to service issues. The first one was settled out of court, the second (after about a million promises of better quality service) is in the hands of the lawyers at the moment.

Level 3 are worse than Xcom, they are not competent and I would not recommend anyone use them for anything. VDI's problems with them really came as no surprise to me.

Verio provides good service, but we didnt' renew with them after they forced a renumbering of a /20 on us and nearly put us out of business.

UUNet has always been the ISP's ISP, but they are no longer. Their service levels have become very poor-it was one thing to pay $2500/T1 for T1's that never went down, but we likely won't be renewing with them. They are also experiencing quite a lot of turnover in their staff and what they have are less knowledgeable than they used to be. It may be due to the fact that they are now a major DSL Internet transit for Covad (about the last one now in business).

Digex (formerly Intermedia) is a provider we've been using since the first of the year. There were no problems with the installation and turn-up, no routing issues, no outage issues. And they are billing us the amount we agreed to pay for the service they agreed to provide, and their prices are very competitive.

Try Digex, my CTO is extremely picky and he gives them the thumbs up.

Thanks a ton man.

I think i will stay with Verios T3's and get some of Digex and run BGP with them. Verio has been great and a lot better then UUnet has every been for us. For one UUnet over chages for there lines and they go down more then verio does.

At First i thought verio would be the one to go down all the time but its been the other way around. UUnet goes down at least 4 times a week on us for at least 5 min and up to 40 at times. Verio on the other hand has never been down and i do mean never not one min in over 8 months. The most Verio has ever been down is when we have to restart some thing..:)

I know most users hate verio because of there billing in the WebHosting part but so far i have not had this problem and from talking to them they should now have it fixed from what i have heard formt them.

Seems every one still likes UUnet i just find that odd... But some users liek them some don't thats what makes the wrold go around...LOL

You are most welcome, we've been in business for 6 years, doing facilities-based web hosting for 5, and as one of the industry's 'old guard', it behooves us to share our experiences as they may keep other people from getting screwed the same way.

There are a lot of serious issues with the providers in our industry, and they seem to be growing worse instead of better. Fighting with vendors over service and billing issues consumes more of our time than it really should.

This is my contact at Digex, he's a good guy (an actual sales rep who didn't lie to me, woo hoo!):

Oh, and if anyone out there is even thinking about purchasing transit from Savvis-DO NOT! One of my colleagues made the mistake of purchasing a T3 from them. The information that they provide regarding their network infrastructure is pure fiction, and it took them 8 months to install the circuit, and when they did it was down for days and weeks at a time.

All of the providers you listed can be good and bad depending on location. Some are good in certain locations while being the worst in other locations. It all depends where you are.

In this area (NYC), BBNPlanet is very good. Sprint is also very good. Level 3 just plain sucks in this area!
