View Full Version : Okay, here's my results thus far:
Hercules 04-24-2001, 09:32 PM I have been looking at Site5.com's Unix based services, and their prices are good, (mainly for the bandwith I get..)
However, when tested on Netmechanic.com, they produced only a 'fair' rating, whereas some other sites produced better.
I just wonder if there are hosts with similar pricing/features as Site5, but with faster connects to the united states.

Hercules 04-24-2001, 11:23 PM I am now leaning towards NT hosting, as I have a friend developing a CFM script that he'd help tailor for my site.. would be useful.
So far I've seen ReadyHost.com, and they are rated "very good" by netmechanic.com.
And their features are really unbeatable.. their soft cap for bandwith as I've ventured to find out, is around 15GB, which isn't too shabby for $99/year.

Annette 04-25-2001, 12:57 AM Oh, I don't know. I ran a trace on site5.com from Carnegie-Mellon and got hop times in the 20ms range. Not bad. Even from my machine here I'm getting good 45-55ms hops. Looks like they have ICMP off, so no ping response to report.
jayglate 04-25-2001, 01:31 PM The reason why you got a fair rating is that they have ICMP turned off. ICMP is a very important part of netmechanics testing.

Sorry about that. ICMP has been enabled on our site5.com webserver. If you try the rating over, it should produce improved results.
