In the past, we've always seen a group of WHT members gather Sunday evening for a casual dinner (last time I was at HostingCon in Chicago, it was pizza and beer - a lot of beer - at Gino's), and I've love to see a group get together again this year.

If we can get a few responses in this thread, I'll be happy to take charge of reserving a big table somewhere close to the convention center and hotel area. I'm staying in the Four Seasons, and I'm using that as sort of a central point, but I'll gladly take suggestions.

Who's up for it? :)

It is great food and right on lake austin.I love the idea, but I just called them to reserve tables, and they don't take any call-ahead seating or reservations, even for large parties. There's no guarantee we'll be able to get a table for everyone. So I think we're going to have to look elsewhere.

The other two restaurants mentioned earlier didn't look like particularly good hangouts for our group either. I'll do some investigating, but any more recommendations are very welcome!

Stubbs BBQ might be another good choice, big famous place in Austin.

Ok, so here's what we have. I called 6 places within walking distance of the conference center / Four Seasons. Two can completely accommodate us, I'm waiting to hear back from one, and the others are either closed on Sunday or don't take reservations.

Anyway, I am en-route. Have landed in Sydney, cleared immigration/security and my flight to Los Angeles boards in about 40 minutes. From there I'll hop on an American Airlines flight to Los Angeles and see those of you who can make it on Sunday evening.

It's supposed to be in San Diego next year? Heck yes! It's nice for me since I really didn't want to fly to HC, seeing as Austin is only 3 hours or so away from where I live it's not too bad to get there. :)

I can't say what the deal was before I arrived, but we got there around 7:30, and the service we received was fantastic, especially considering we reserved room for 40 and 80-100 showed up over the course of the night. Great food, great beer, and some fantastic conversations and introductions with members. I hope you all had as good a time as I did :)

Sorry I couldn't make it. As I explained in the SMS to Mahinder, we were diverted to Dallas as our plane (and others) didn't have enough fuel to go into a holding pattern over Austin due to apparent weather.

It seemed fine when I finally arrived a few hours later, so I'm not sure what happened there :)

Anyway, I checked in and headed out for a relatively subdued dinner at Iron Cactus with a friend from AU that I ran into on that same flight before heading off to bed.

I'm sure I'll see some of you around over the next few days :)
