Y say PHP!!!!!!! Microsoft suscks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reasons:
PHP
- 10 times quicker
- free
- open source
- a compact and easy-to-write language
- plataform independent (since you can find the source for the operating system you prefer).

ASP
- slower
- borring and very long to write
- no line delimiter like the lovely ";"
- tedious and only Microsoft compatible (ok, excluding Chily AP)
- extremly expensive for poor countries like mine ;) (considering all licenses we must pay, like nt, sql and the list goes on)
- compare the uptime on a server using PHP an the uptime on a server using ASP.. There is nothing to say here..

Conclusion: ASP or dotnet (the same anyway) must be forgoten in the past. PHP rules. I must say JSP is flyer to!!!!!!!! But we are not discussing this right now..

Obviously there are not the same (for ASP and .Net)... It was an ironic way for saying they share negative points...

ASP.net and ASP are not the same, if they are, the .net would not be developed.

.net obviously is a lot more... but it's so resource intensive ~_~ I am starting to believe the people who say Intel and MS have a secret pact to rub each others backs

They're both great but "for the web" it's gotta be PHP. With ASP the box it's hosted on is going to be up and down like a whore's drawers unless you've got a dedicated. (I'm ignoring ChilliSoft; I think that makes ASP on Linux plans too expensive)

Not keen on JSP at all...

my 2 cents

php for the following reasons

1 ) overtaking asp as the scripting lang on the web (see netcraft)
2) opensource and you can hack away and get into the guts of it
3) not as resource intensive as ASP
4) whats your os and webserver ?
most of them are linux/apache combo. php is the "natural" choice for this config

p.s. apache is still kicking iis ass in the web server stakes

5) Bill has enough money as it is

my 3 cents. JSP is not all that bad great for custom tag loveliness:mad:

I love PHP, although I'm still using Frontpage making the Front-end :D

PHP is the first programme I've learnt. Before PHP, I can only read CGI/Perl codes and modify its front-end. I think Yahoo! and me got the right track - PHP Follower!
