can anybody shed some light on UUNET?

I have read the SLA and it states: 100% Network Availability, and Guaranteed Latency on the Transatlantic link of 120ms

i mean maybe 99.999% but 100% ?? thats amazing/ridiculus.

I am not considering going with UUNET as the cost of their services is HUGE.

Considering EVERYBODY uses ftp.uu.net to test download speeds i would imagine they have one of the best networks in the world but you definitely pay for what you get, and you pay BIG time.

Yes UUNET is prob. one of the most expensive out there. ANd yes they do guerentee 100% uptime, they also guerentee 65ms roundtrip packet delivery, and theyve had to only had to reimburse people for like .2% downtime.

SO yes they are about the best out there.

who actually has direct transatlantic links? (UK=USA)

Ive noticed almost ALL uk traffic goes through UUNET, are they the only people who have such a link or are there others?

But they do come close enough that it's worth their while to make the guarantee even if they occasionally have to make good on it.

Excellent point, Jay. As a point in fact, UUNET has not delivered 100% and cannot. I don't believe anyone can. They are promising the impossible,

Unfortunately, UUNET is a spam enabling backbone,, Their head of abuse is apathetic towards stemming the huge flow of spam coming through them.

That makes them to be less than reputable in certain respects.

That's putting it mildly.

uunet is only a spam backbone because of the sheer amount of sites and ISPs using their network.

I think there's more to it than that. This is from the SpamHaus.org (http://www.spamhaus.org) front page:
UUNET Vice President Clint Smith is behind UUNET's corporate policy decision to support stealth spamware sites, meaning UUNET is now 'officially' a Spam Support company. UUNET-hosted stealth spamware sites fuel the 30 Billion junk emails spammed through the UUNET network each year. (More network traffic means more revenue for UUNET)
