View Full Version : Google Merchant & Google Checkout
AlexSWF 06-22-2010, 04:08 AM Has anyone tried Google Merchant (http://www.google.com/merchants/) and Google Checkout (http://checkout.google.com) ? Any results?
They looks like promising and need no hosting or software or payment processor...
ggstorms 06-25-2010, 06:00 PM I've had a VERY negative experience using Google Checkout. I used them for a few months with no problems when suddenly, without reason or warning they suspended my account. They refunded my orders to my customers even after the products have been shipped out.
You will be shocked at how unprofessional and unresponsive Google Checkout support is, you have to communicate by email and response times are usually 3 days or longer. They have no phone number.
Look up "google checkout suspended" to read about the thousands of people who have also had their accounts suspended for no reason or explanation. And when you are suspended you will be totally screwed because Google will refund the money back to your customers, even after you mailed out the products, so your customers will get your product for free.
Google Checkout definitely belongs in the bottom tier of payment processors.
123Systems-Andrew 06-25-2010, 07:08 PM We have been using google checkout for quite some time now, Never had any problems. It's a very simple process.
1.) Client Pays
2.) Mark it as shipped
3.) They payout (2) days after shipment.
Never had a single problem.

I don't understand though. They payout fairly quickly so how would they refund your clients after they paid you?
There HAS to be more to this story.

I meant they refunded the orders that were placed in the 2 days before they closed my account.
I was doing over $10K in sales monthly so the orders in those 2 days was still a significant amount.
Spunkyasp 06-27-2010, 03:15 PM I always prefer Google Checkout when receiving payments. It's very simple and automated. There support isn't very good, but support isn't a big deal when it comes to payment processors.
fcfpayments 06-27-2010, 03:23 PM Google check-out is not for prime time players. too confusing for the customer to check-out.
ggstorms 06-27-2010, 04:33 PM Google Checkout recently suspended the account of bidStart a top seller in the online auction marketplace for antiques and collectibles

Google Checkout is an autonomous entity within Google completely operated by out-sourced people in India with a poor grasp of the English language. These are the people who decide what happens to your account and if they are going to suspend it permanently. They don't need to give a reason for doing so, and once it's gone it's gone forever. It can happen at any time without warning, just as it has happened to thousands of people already.
Just keep that in mind if you decide to use Google Checkout.

That's not like them. I'm sure there's another side to the suspension.

How old is this story and why didn't you contacted their support team?
fcfpayments 06-28-2010, 10:58 AM Any third party payment provider has the same power of your account. PayPal, allied Wallet, eWallet, etc.
You as a merchant do not control your money or account.
Mike Johnson 06-28-2010, 03:19 PM I've used both and have been happy so far.
I have had quite a few discussions with their support team. They are mostly competent, but being overseas means that you will have to wait overnight for responses.
AlexSWF 06-29-2010, 04:30 AM Thanks for the info.
BTW registered my products in google products (google merchant) it appears in search but ranking is too poor... even when I search by exact "product name" query and there are no competitors for this query. ((( Looks like it is not so simple as it looks)
nick771 06-29-2010, 02:00 PM Google checkout is good, but it depends on the product. They are very strict if it falls into business opportunities, adult, and so on. Read their terms carefully. I had a friend who tried them years ago, and it was an ebook on how to advertise on the Internet and they quickly labeled it "get rich quick" and canceled his account.
It's better than PayPal, as long as your product is not controversial and fits their guidelines.
VIPoint 06-30-2010, 02:21 AM Google checkout can be used as a secondry or backup checkout method. It is not as reliable as other checkout systems.
AlexSWF 07-01-2010, 11:07 AM Thanks. I will not use google checkout. Will find something else.
