I opened and acount at tera-byte on Saturday. There was an 1 hour down-time on Sunday:mad:. I got angry and desided to give the acount to a client. On Sunday I orderer an acount on Weinbar.Monday it was ready and fast. Today 1 hour untill now down-time. Finally I discover (today) that both are going through alter.net, so I would face the same downtime.:( Maybe I am both. PS. The control panel of Weinbar is great. orfeo 04-24-2001, 09:11 AM Back to life. Does this happen often with alter? MSW 04-24-2001, 09:17 AM Hi everyone: There is not a problem with the network, only on our end. There was a router problem in Austin, TX and it has since been fixed. We apologize for any short outages that have occurred. DJ 04-24-2001, 09:24 AM Everything is fine now, GOOD WORK weinbar :) I knew something is wrong when i could not access www.weinbar.com. I could not even call you guys cause i cant see the phone number from your website. Apparently my site is down for 3 hours :(. Anyway, so far only this disruption and i'm still a happy customer because i can download from my site at 200KB/sec :) orfeo 04-24-2001, 09:27 AM I assumed it was network because the other acount was down to (at tera) the 2 times I checked. Thanks for replying. DJ 04-24-2001, 09:31 AM Originally posted by orfeo Neither could I. Am I cursed or plain stupid? I opened and acount at tera-byte on Saturday. The control panel of Weinbar is great. I'm a previous customer of tera-byte as well. Since i'm from a different geographical location, weinbar is only 11 hops away compared to tera 18 hops. For me, it comes thru bbnplanet for weinbar but tera-te continues from there. On tera-byte, we are hosted of RAQ4 and the server doesnt like my UBB too much. In weinbar, we are at dual Pentium 3 500 or 800 and have no problem with my UBB. As for speed, weinbar is definately faster than tera-byte for me because i could now download at 200KB/sec from weinbar but i could not get the same speed off tera-byte. Getting a second account before that promotion ends and you wont go wrong with weinbar :) greatgraddage 04-24-2001, 10:30 AM ...everyone is being a bit harsh. You have to expect servers to go down, it is impossible to have 100% uptime. All hosts ill go down sooner or later, it is a fact of life. Weinbar seems to be a good host and I am sure this will end up to be an isolated incident. Fuser 04-24-2001, 10:35 AM Sorry for anything stupid I may say. I don't know much about this side of the biz. Anyway- I am thinking seriously about moving to WeinBar, but am now concerned about connection slowdowns in my area (US Mid-South) due to alter.net. I saw a post somewhere saying that it was a bottle-neck for some areas. It was a post about Tera-Byte. This is something that I need to know before I would make the switch. Any help very much appreciated :) Thanks! --Chris sigma 04-24-2001, 11:02 AM alter.net is UUnet, the largest commercial backbone provider. In most failure modes, if your provider has multiple backbone connections, traffic will take alternate routes. Or just checked Michael's signature here. :) Fuser 04-24-2001, 11:12 AM Thanks, Sigma =) So is a "bottleneck" considered a "failure mode"? I was concerned about it slowing things down. Not so much about it breaking. Anyone know if WeinBar has multiple backbone connections? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be 100% sure of what I am doing when I switch. Thanks again =) Rehan 04-24-2001, 11:18 AM Originally posted by Fuser Anyone know if WeinBar has multiple backbone connections? Yes. Here are two of them (I'm sure there are more): http://www.net.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/traceroute?www.weinbar.com http://net.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/trace.sh?www.weinbar.com MSW 04-24-2001, 11:22 AM Yes, WeinBar has multiple backbone modes (UUNet/Genuity/soon to be Sprint) Here is the word I received from Aperian: Both core routers went down at the exact same time. This is an EXTREMELY rare situation, as the routers have gone down before without any interruption in service. The other one was immediately active in that case. In this case, they both went down and a third party is in today investigating. Again, I will post results as they are known to me. Fuser 04-24-2001, 11:30 AM Thanks!! =) So my concern about alter.net slowing things down in my area (or anywhere) is not an issue? leat 04-24-2001, 01:02 PM Originally posted by WeinBar ....Again, I will post results as they are known to me. Michael, could you please post these results on your web site, or even email them directly to your customers, and not only post them for the WHT audience. /lennert |
