Has anybody tried this?
![]() | View Full Version : Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview SI-Chris 04-24-2001, 05:54 AM Has anybody tried this? (SH)Saeed 04-24-2001, 06:24 AM I installed it a couple of days ago. I really don't see anything that great about it. I prefer IE 5.0 because from 5.5+ the load speed has gone down to 10%. mpkapadia 04-29-2001, 02:40 AM Gives me problems actually Many times my browser just shuts down on its own , never happeded in ie 5.5 Happens more when i access wht site. Dont know why? Rgds Manish Kapadia TheComputerGuy 04-29-2001, 07:17 AM They are trying to stop you from coming to the site. ckizer 04-29-2001, 09:04 AM IE 6 has been working better than 5.5 for me for the last month. Not much of a change, maybe a bit more stable, and better CSS support. Just a more refined version of 5.5 webfors 04-29-2001, 09:34 AM I won't install anything that's called a "Public Preview"! Just says headaches all over it :D Duster 04-29-2001, 10:54 AM They don't even include any aspirin with it. Public Preview is just a euphemism for beta stage, not ready for public release. BW 04-29-2001, 11:52 AM I use it and way to many pages get pop up errors on them that are fine in other browsers :( -BW Martie 04-29-2001, 02:38 PM Well as usual...works for some, and not for some! I risked it and dloaded the new IE6. My 5.5. was freezing alot, and lots of unknown errors occuring too. Since 6 has been on here..I guess its been about a month, its been fine, and Im also using outlook express 6? (SH)Saeed 04-29-2001, 02:49 PM I recommend everyone to stick with IE5.0, it load fastest, takes less resources and crashes less. Martie 04-29-2001, 03:10 PM I have to agree that 5.0 is/was MUCH better than 5.5 Duster 04-29-2001, 03:27 PM I concur. I run both major browsers concurrently and had never had IE crash until v 5.5. I was used to it with Netscape Nav, and IE doing it came as a surprise. It doesn't do it as often anymore though it still happens (and happened at least twice this week). I read (here I think) that the code changed significantly from 5.0 to 5.5 If that is true, stability was sacrificed for whatever features were added. It's interesting to see what will happen this year with AOL and their web browser. Their contract with Microsoft to use IE runs out and NN 6 is a browser disaster, the browser that might kill Netscape. It was enough to get me to switch to IE as my primary and default browser, as well as many others. Martie 04-29-2001, 04:00 PM Hi Duster, What version are you running of Netscape? I go wayyyyy back with Netscape..Ive finally made myself start using IE for about the past year..JUST BECAUSE its the most popular browser. I do think 5.0 was better than 5.5 or possibly this 6 version. I started way back with the old Netscape Gold? Anyone remember that one? That was my old faithful, and it worked like a charm. Then of course, versions change, etc etc....I havent found a version as good as the gold. I do think there was one out that was good, but I cant remember..I always have 2 browsers anyway, for checking pages. I am currently running Communicator 4.7 I will admit though I dont use it often. allending 04-29-2001, 04:12 PM Netscape seems to be a little less usable than IE to me ... IE seems brighter and more intuitive ;) I installed ie6pp .... then i had to install windows 98 all over again , thanks microsoft~~!! =====//=== ever heard this one ? ===//==== A helicopter pilot was in a haze over seattle ... he couldnt see anything and he was way low on fuel .. he had to land quick - then he was flying over a building which was a little more visible. Spotting some people in it, he quickly took a piece of card board and wrote on it "WHERE AM I"? and held it so that the people in the building could see it. The people in the building quickly hustled and wrote out something on another piece of cardboard and showed it to the pilot. It read "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER". Quickly, the pilot headed for the airport and landed safely - when asked how he knew where the airport was, he replied "i knew that i was flying above microsoft - only they could give such a technically correct , but totally useless answer. JTY 04-29-2001, 05:02 PM LOL, haven't heard that one in quite a while..... Duster 04-29-2001, 05:07 PM Hi Martie, I'm running 4.76. I've been using NN since 2.x and even used NN 3 Gold to begin creating pages (along with some manual editing and other programs for other functions). It was okay for simple editing, though it has many limitations. IE was something I only used on occasion to check compatibility. There was usually no need as if something worked in NN, it would work in IE. Netscape has problems at many levels and their attitude seems to be similar to that of a certain company I once used as a host. I was a dmoz editor for awhile and did not care for what I saw and experienced there. A certified, registered letter to Netscape met with no response. When I saw the early release of their version 6 browser, I gave up any hope for them and switched to IE full time. I still use NN to check compatibility and for e-mail, as Outlook has way too many vulnerabilities. I wonder if even AOL owning it can save it. I think very few people even care anymore. allending, I hadn't heard that one. Thanks. Here's one I've told here before you may not have seen. How many Microsoft programmers does it take to change a light bulb? None. They'll just change the standard to dark. allending 04-29-2001, 09:30 PM Haha :stickout etLux 05-01-2001, 01:31 AM IE6 is the apology for what they screwed up moving from IE5.0 to IE5.5. dektong 05-01-2001, 01:53 AM Originally posted by etLux IE6 is the apology for what they screwed up moving from IE5.0 to IE5.5. And I always thought that additional 0.5 will give me better software... OK... v 6.0 is still beta (and seems to give problems too) so I may need to downgrade to v 5.0 ... :( BTW... For some reasons, with IE 5.0 (and 5.5) some of the pages I load will give me korean/japanese characters (very annoying) and sometimes it will give me "runtime error" (javascript?); the runtime error will be gone once I restarted the IE again. Thus I upgraded to 5.5 and still the same problem. Anyone knows how to get rid of these problems (especially with the foreign characters)? I will appreciate it. cheers, etLux 05-01-2001, 02:24 PM Learn Korean. |
