Does anyone have any idea what would cause a long delay (about 10-15) seconds
in connecting to pop3? Once it connects its fine and all other services like http, ftp,
smtp seem to connect almost instantly.
Doesnt matter if I use the IP address or domain there is still the delay.

It is driving me crazy! Any suggestions?

Usually it's an rDNS or identd problem; the server wants to know who you are, and waits 15 seconds before realizing that you're not going to tell it.

I turned off identd so then it must be a reverse dns problem?

it is most definitely a dns prob. make sure that the server name matches e.g server.domain.com not localhost.localdomain.
