I'm very close to going with AffordableHost.com, but I wanted to get some feedback first. Considering I'm pretty new to finding a webhost (although I learned a lot from my nightmare with HostingPlans.com), I'm hoping that those with more experience can help me.
So does anyone want to send up the red flag when they see that I'm considering AffordableHost? I've seen several posts by Tina both here and on newsgroups, and I'm impressed by her net presence, which is a good sign. I also haven't seen really any negative comments about AH at all.
One question I have is, and perhaps this should be directed to AH: Can I use a different/cheaper registrar and still host my site with AH?
What are the advantages of having a control panel (I do understand that there is an email control panel)?
Your advice and recommendations are appreciated.

I haven't heard anything bad about them. Though there was an issue on their control panel.

Thanks for replying, klisis.
I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) that the only control panel AffordableHost has is for e-mail. In your experience, how much do I need a control panel and what exactly can you do with one? (I realize that all control panels are different, but in general...) In other words, what am I missing by going with a host that a doesn't have a control panel.
Also, I don't want this thread to turn into a control panel discussion. My original request for any recommendations/thoughts about AffordableHost still stands. :) Thanks in advance for any help.

You can use any domain name registrar you wish; good ones are 000domains.com and Dotster.com.
As for a control panel, most of them do a lot more than set up e-mail. Take a look at the one at Wizards Hosting (http://216.74.69.210:2082/frontend/alastyle/index.html) to get an idea of the options a full-featured control panel will give you.

Errr, guys, read what the original poster wants out of the discussion and stick to it please (the CP bit)! Danke.
Scott, I've been observing the Usenet group alt.www.webmaster for quite a while now and Tina is an active poster as well as being consistently recommended by a.w.w. members. She's also becoming an active poster here. I very much doubt you will have any trouble with them :)

I've been acquainted with Tina for quite some time now, primarily when I was actively reading AWW. She's always demonstrated great care for her clients, and I only recall one instance of someone questioning the AF service. I couldn't put my finger on it now, and the fact that only one instance comes to mind should tell you something.

On a host to host level, Tina is a very commendable member of the industry. She has helped me with a domain registration matter for one of our clients. She's not shy to recommend another host either, if she doesn't cover the features required or the poster is after someone in a specific area.
So I doubt that on a client to host level you'd have any problems at all.

AWW is alt.www.webmaster, a USENET newsgroup.
