I am curently setting up an affiliate program for our hosting company, we would like your opinion as to wether we should pay a standard commision per sale, or a percentage of the sale price, or an ongoing commision of smaller percentage, but for as long as the acc. is open.

Why don't you try offering a referral plan, and a % discount plan (50% is probably the max I'd lower prices), then see which one is more popular. That way you cover more of the reseller market, both the provide-your-own-support and refer-your-friends setups.
