I've seen licenses being sold on EBay.

I have a feeling buying Win2k off of Ebay isn't exactly legal... that's redistribution, and I'm almost positive Microsoft doesn't let people do this ;)

Is 2000 Server more popular than 2000 Advanced Server?

For web hosting. Yes. Its the cheaper of the two.

Advanced server gets you clustering, not much else in a hosting environment. I gots my free copy running from the now defunct MS Web Hoster's program on one of my hosting servers, but I would never buy a copy.

Why use linux if you have more knowledge on Windows?
To learn how to setup and tweak a linuxserver takes more time than a day...
For me to get a secure and safe as possible win2k server up and running, takes just some few hours!

unfortunately windows simply cant compare on the basis of security, you will NEVER get a windows box as secure as linux/BSD free beer OS's

hell, id run OSX server before i would opt for windows...

unfortunately im very dependant on windows, but just like an abused house wife, that doesnt mean i trust it.

Hmmm, the latest OpenHack contest showed that both systems, WHEN ADMINISTERED PROPERLY, prevented any serious security breeches specific to the OS or server.

The problem is, and always will be that Linux is only embraced and by people who know how to administer it. This is because it's such a black box OS, and not for the casual user.

Any bloke with a Win PC thinks he's a hacker and throws up an unpatched server, which is subsequently hacked and gives the OS a black eye. Hell, I still get hit by unpatched Nimda/Code Red servers weekly, a year after the attack! If you are smart enough to even get Linux configured to BE a web server, it's probably safe to assume you have patched it. That's not a compliment to Linux by any means. It's an OS that MUST BE ADMINISTERED to even get it running. Windows' ease of setup allows bad administrators to run rampant, especially at educational institutions for some strange reason.

you make a valid point. But im the type of person who believes there should be a test before you procreate too, so think about that.

My point was that if you already are familiar with win2k but not with linux, why even bother to try administer a linux box?
I know my way round Win2K Server, but linux
Installed RH7.3, got MySQL, Apache, PHP working, I can even install programs and know some commands in the console, but i don't have a clue on how to make it secure or adding new websites  But hey, in Win2K I know how to make a website secure and how to administer the computer! :D
