As you know, we are under development. We came across this problem of Merchant Services. I've discussed with my fellow partners but we cannot get a good thing out.
Two choices we have considered:
PayPal - We are not sure whether it can or not
WorldPay.com - Seems expensive
Any assistance for us ?

PayPal is okay as an added method of accepting payments, because some people only use it. But, I wouldn't recommend it as your only processor.

I only know from what I've used. And I really enjoy PaySystems (http://paysystems.com).
If you wait, I'm sure that others will recommend with services they have used.

If you know your going to be busy, the accetping cards is a good option. Also, if you dont accept cards, but want to it can increase sales.
We currently accept:
BACs (standing order, bank transfer)
Cash (advised against)
Nochex (Like PayPal but just for the UK)
Cheque's
Most of our customers send Cheque, those who pay monthly choose BACs, and a handfull use Nochex. Not many send Cash, as its not the most secure method.
You may of read we are in development of an online payment system using worldpay. Hopefully this will be working end of Dec start of Jan.

Havnt had any overseas cheque. Had one overseas bank transfer from Austrailia, didnt cost us anything to receive.
We currently have 18 months free banking with our business account. So we dont need to worry about charges per payment etc as of yet.
