I need to colo a backup server, I am in California. I would have something close but if I am flexible, currently was looking at FDC $39/mo - $30/mo with a 12 month contract.

This is for a BACKUP-emergency server that will be used for contingency when our network goes into maintenance, so bandwidth is not a big concern. I don't think I will need more than 200gb with the occasional burst.

Hurricane Electric is great, Not sure how much a 1U would be but a full rack is 475$/month. So a 1U should be pretty cheap.
You have to request a Price Quote from them though, They are pretty speedy :)

Check out CorporateColo.com - they can probably do some decent rates for you, and they are in downtown LA.

Its going to be tough getting that price in LA. I did see an offer in the Colo offers forum thats around that price:

We use Pacific Rack / Oc3 Networks or now known as quadranet
and they are based in Los Angeles.

I am not sure how much your needs are, but they are great!
