Glad I found this post. We just got a new 550 before Christmas, leased from our ISP, and it has PHP 4.0.6. Sun say upgrading will break the UI. But it seems several of you have done this successfully. Which version did you install? I am very new with servers, so was this an easy install/upgrade. Does it need any special technical knowledge with Unix commands? I presume the UI still works OK after.
Thanks for any help
Bob

Got this from Sun in the UK today:
Upgrading software that's allready installed will void your warranty.
It's simple as that. In the case of PHP I can give you a good reason
too. The Cobalt Configuration Engine (CCE) and the GUI webpages heavily
depend on PHP and on the version that is shipped with the RaQ550.
Upgrading PHP will surely break the GUI and possibly CCE.
A workaround is to install a new PHP version next to the existing one.
The version shipped with the RaQ550 can be found in
/usr/lib/php
/usr/include/php
and partly in
/usr/sausalito/ui/libPhp
So, downloading the PHP source code and installing it in e.g.
/usr/local/php
will enable the customer to use a new PHP version and not break the GUI
and CCE. Of course, any problems initiated by this install will void the
warranty too.

Plugging a Cobalt into an electric source will VOID your warranty. HEll, doing anything with a Cobalt other then simply looking at it and smiling will VOID the warranty.
Cobalt's don't "REALLY" have a warranty.
Image if the FORD MOTOR COMPANY warranty stated "Adding fuel, other then what is factory preinstalled will void your new vehicle warrenty" ?
- just my 2 cents.... Don't get me wrong, I love the little blue turds.
