View Full Version : Web Listing Companys?
SeanK 12-10-2002, 02:55 AM I know there are some Companys out there that will list your web site to clients for soem type of commision. Kinda like if we bring you business then you pay us a % of your $$$$$ amount.
Does anyone know urls of sites like this??
if so can you post here or PM me!
Synthetic 12-10-2002, 03:08 AM Do you mean something like an affiliate or referral program?
SeanK 12-10-2002, 03:33 AM Say you went to
www.somedomain.com and searched a list of web hosting companys listed. You pick one and then decided to buy a 59.99 package.
well since somedomain.com sent that customer to you, they get a commision of 5% or something ... because they got you the business...
Synthetic 12-10-2002, 03:44 AM You could try setting up an advertiser account over at http://www.cj.com
Then publishers can sign-up for your program, display your ad materials, and they can get paid (on your basis) for every sale or lead that originated from their site.

Web Hosting Stuff 12-10-2002, 04:32 AM There are 2 types of sites you can consider based on your desc:
1. Hosting directories
Some require flat/variable listing fees while others charge based on commissions
2. Affiliate Program
You can start your own affiliate program or outsource to companies like cj.com.
SeanK 12-10-2002, 05:51 AM www.findmyhosting.com is what i have been looking for ... It works on commision ( thus they don't bleed you if they send you nothing ) So if anyone knows any other sites like this please share! Thanks
bjseiler 12-10-2002, 02:31 PM My company builds lead distribution systems for lead companies. Mostly mortgage leads systems (a mortgage broker will generally pay $10-40 per lead just to get the information from somebody who says that they are interested in a new mortgage). The system manages and distributes the leads. We only sell the systems, not the leads (so this is not advertising).
The reason I am posting is that I am curious what people would be willing to pay for a "dedicated server lead" or a "shared hosting lead"? The mortgage business is very competitive at the pay-per-clicks; something like $7 for "california mortgage" so the brokers are willing to pay a little more for leads because generally people are more serious if they fill out a form than if they just click a link.
Just wondering what people would pay per lead. Curiousity really.
JeffM 12-19-2002, 02:17 AM I would be interested in this information as well. What kind of value do hosting companies put on a lead? What about a lead that was only sent to 4 or 5 perspective hosting companies?

From working with lead companies, the more people you send the lead out to, the cheaper the lead has to be (obviously) but I think it actually gets cheaper exponentially because you have to assume that this person who filled out the application is not only looking for offers through you, but also through other sites, services, etc. So, if you send out the lead to 4 to 5 people, this person might actually be getting 5-10 offers in total. That is tough to compete with and I don't think you would have a lot of hosting companies as repeat buyers. Exclusive is really the only thing I think hosts would want to do.
Web Hosting Stuff 12-19-2002, 11:04 AM I would think that such a lead should not be over-sold and the age should be less than 10 days? .. otherwise the lead would turn cold ..
bjseiler 12-19-2002, 12:35 PM Surprisingly, there is a market (speaking about business leads in general) for leads that are exclusive and instantaneous all the way to month old leads that have already been sent out to a bunch of people. The price difference for these leads might go from $40 to $.50, but people still buy them. Either way it is a numbers game and nobody expects every lead to convert. Obviously it takes a lot of the month old leads to convert.
Web Hosting Stuff 12-19-2002, 01:55 PM ya guessthe same truths for direct marketing would apply for online lead generation too ... :stickout:
SeanK 12-19-2002, 02:01 PM See i wanted a place that would get paid if i made business. Some places offer like 300 /month charge .. but that means nothing .. because if i don't get customers then i will be out of business in 2 months. So that's why i am looking for a Pay as we provide you with service!
one of the reasons is your can have a lot of "hits" but that doesn't mean visitors .. I know people that load up a program and all it does is refresh a browser with a new proxy IP .. so it's a "new" visit every time!

I think your only option then is going with an affiliate program. There are too many inherent (sp?) risks for the company that would do what you are asking for.
1. It is hard for them to prove that you owe them money so there are going to be a lot of people abusing the site.
2. As it is with people buying leads, some people are soooo much better salesmen than others. The site would struggle to only list the good closers because it would be stupid for them to list the dogs that can not close.
3. Just managing and keeping track of who is listed and what you think they owe you would be a minor nightmare compared with just selling a listing or selling leads.
I might be wrong. I think that elance or some company like that takes a percentage of all closed deals. They try to hide contact information from the parties so they can not get around paying. So, maybe it would work.
