Newbie here, just taken the plunge, registered my domain name for my new ATV/Motorcycle shop atvmountaincycle.com
I got the name for eNom off this forum, they have a deal for $29.95/year for registration with a 10 page web site, and a built in web builder. Pretty crappy web builder, I have messed around with Front Page Express before and gads what a difference.
Anyway, I put together a rudimentary web page using their stuff, about as much as it allows, but it doesn't come up in any search engines, Google, Yahoo, nada.
....So now I need to build a real web page and get it out there where it will come up on search engines. I do not need a complicated web site, just a few pages, some pictures, a few links, no merchant or credit card stuff just yet.
....SO now I got $29.95 into eNom, where I guess I should have done "name only" with them for $8.95, oops, cause their "web builder" really sucks. Check it out, I'm sure you will agree.
....I have a domain name now, I know I can build a real web page with Front Page, what should I do now?

Host your web page at home if you can or goto brinkster which is free and upload you pages there then just point your enom domain where you host your pages.

If I understand you correctly, you already have a host, so there's no need to attempt to host from home.

In order to "come up in a search engine" as you put it, you need to submit your sites to search engines. If you don't understand what that means, try using the search feature on this forum for more information.

As for design, if you're unhappy with your current look, play around with FrontPage (as you mentioned) or download and install one of the many free html editors online. Many site owners are thrilled with their site on the first attempt...and remember, you're your own worst critic.

Best of luck!

Now you need to:

1. Build your website. (Assuming you are not happy with the free 10 page one you have now..)

2. Find a good web hosting company to host your website and email.

3. Sign up with that hosting company.

4. Modify the "nameservers" associated with your domain name to point to the new hosting company.

Step #4 should be clearly explained when you sign up with the hosting company. Their "welcome" email should contain information on what you need to do, and how to do it. Any good hosting company will also walk you through the process, or even do it for you.

Good luck!
