I am a web admin who newly joined a company. I have got into a unique situation:

My company has its official website hosted with a local reseller with a domain name example dot org registered in the name of this reseller.

I now totally redid this site in Drupal and hosted it with the previous provider itself under the dot org domain. But now my company is thinking of purchasing the dot com domain name which will become available in another 10 days time ( its in redemption period ) I am thinking of purchasing the dot com domain name in company's name from godaddy

Q. How can i make this domain name my company site's primary domain name ?
( ie i want to continue using the dot org domain name but want it to redirect to dot com domain name when somebody enters the dot org domain name - problem is i don't have access to dot org domain name's control panel for it is owned by the reseller hosting company with whom our site is presently hosted )

Q. There is an option for 1 parked domain with this reseller with whom our dot org site is hosted. Will i be able to put in the reseller's DNS server names in the dot com domain i buy and then ask them to make the dot com domain my main domain ?

Q. Or is it just best to buy hosting also along with the dot com domain name i plan to buy from godaddy and shift my site installation to godaddy. Then use .htaccess and do 301 redirect for dot org to the dot com domain ?
(this i believe is more costly for i need to buy hosting again at godaddy...but if no other solution, then i will do that )

I hope the experienced people here would be able to get me out of this fix.

Well, it really depends on your preference. But if you have been using I would stay with .org and just forward .com through .htaccess That way you would not lose PR and any other SEO.

This site i am talking about doesn't have that much popularity till date and PR, Old customers, SEO, links, favourites etc is not a consideration. We need to shift it to a .com domain name for it is a company site and not a charitable organization. But how to do it ? I have never done this and i am not sure how to go about it technically ?

Can i buy the dot com domain from godaddy -> give the DNS server names of the reseller host where my dot org domain and present site is there and then -> park it at the reseller host -> ask them to make it my main domain ? If i can do that will i have to back up my current site installation and do i have to reinstall it again ? Will my site go offline in this case ? If so for how many days ?

How can i make this domain name my company site's primary domain name ? I suppose that would be enough to install 301 redirect.
