I posted this on webhostingforums.net as well but did not get much feed back so i will ask wht members the same:
I was wondering why hosts, that are not based in USA keep assuring their clients or POTENTIAL clients that "Although we are not located in US but are servers are"......
This is seen written on some of the sites as well.........
Is it because 90% of the hosting market is US based?
OR has it become an Industry standard to be linked to USA in some way?
I mean DC's can be in Canada, Australia or Japan etc as well...
Was just thinking about it today....what do you members say?

They seem to be targeting to USA market..
I mean, I'd want a server located close to home for faster access..
I wouldn't go and try to find a Japan server... Now, if they were targeting home, they wouldnt be getting US servers... but like I said, seems they are targeting the US market

What is important is not the distance but the number of nodes the signal has to go through because the nodes are o-e-o and that slows things down.
There is no Internet backbone in Venezuela (or at least, there was none until recently) so, the access to a web site hosted in Caracas from a client in Caracas the signal has to go through New York. A web host in Atlanta via NY or via Orlando, FL is then closer than one in Caracas!
Recently I was looking for web hosting and I discovered that New Zealand via LA was closer to Caracas than Washington State via Chicago. New Zealand was 12 hops while Washington State was 17 hops. Often when I access my host in Fort Myers, FL, the signal goes through New York or sometimes through Dallas-Ft. Worth.
Tracing servers can be fun!

US and Canada bandwidth is traditionally cheaper than a lot of countries, and has a bunch more redundancy available, so it could be to justify why they are less expensive.
A lot of it is most likely that they are targeting US clients tho, as Lirath suggested. A lot of companies in the US feel uncomfortable doing business with overseas companies from certain countries.
