I am from Austria, greetings to beautiful Italy :)
Yes, Revecom will work. I am currently in the process of testing. Regarding VAT you will have to ask the local office of your chamber or the financial government (don't know the right word in english).

If your selling to the US (I assume this is your primary market) then I believe you won't need to add VAT. If you sell to people in your country then you will need to add VAT (aka sales tax in america). In the UK you don't need to add VAT unless your turnover is in excess of £50k even if you sell to people in your own country.
*all information above might not be true *

if you sell IMMaterial goods (therfore smthg like software, hosting, domains, webpages and so on) as far as I know you must add the italian vat (inside europe/us/everywhere).
if you sell material goods it's up to you if you want to get the VAT or not from european customers, but.... as far as I know you must get it if you sell outside europe for material goods too.
*all info may be wrong* but i think.... it should... be correct
