Well? My friend and I are about to create one, in PHP or perl, but we need to know what features hosts/resellers/dedicated servers would need..... Feel free to post what features you think are a MUST for a control panel, as well as what ones are nice to have.

As a reseller and user myself, I must say that its better for you to experience yourself on Cpanel. Cpanel is rather user friendly with the Graphics.

I agree, I've used (but not hosted) on Plesk, Ensim, and CPanel... CPanel was definitely my top choice.

Cpanel is way too expensive, thats why we want to make something thats as good or better, for a lower price, maybe even free..... So we need feedback! :D
Uses a chrooted environment like Ensim.
Doesn't lock you in to only one choice of things like mailservers. I.e. should be able to choose sendmail, exim, postfix, qmail, etc. Or at least document thoroughly how the CP works so that modules can be easily created.
Very flexible interface, easy to skin to the point of being impossible to tell what the underlying CP really is.
Be easy to modify the hosting model.
Base accounting should be bandwidth, disk space, CPU time, and memory usage for *all* services. Metrics to offer hosting plans on can be built off the base four.

From a customer point of view, I'd want something relatively simple to use, yet loaded with features.
Overall, a product similar to cPanel, it fulfills all my needs. I really wouldn't use anything else.
However, you could try focusing on building a more solid/advanced resellers panel, as I find most of them (including WHM) to a bit weak.

Okay, we can do all of this pretty easily... Its just going to take a month or two.
Anyone here want to help with the graphics?
The ease of use of CPanel with the security and stability of Ensim.

yeah - MOST importantly for me is the stability/efficiency which ensim gives.
Now if you could make an ensim which:
- is easily/fully skinnable
- coded with php
- includes the things they missed
(subdomains, user mysql management)
then you would be onto a winner!

Well its definitely going to be in php and will be easily customized. And about "includes the things they missed", thats why we're trying to get everyone to list every possible feature they want/need so that we don't miss anything!
