Ok,
I shall be building my new system around the beginning of January. I chose January because I am hoping new products will be released as the first quarter begins then. My question is this, does anyone know of any products I should be looking out for that will be released sometime within January? My budget for the computer (not monitor) will be about $2000. For the new products I am mainly referring to the motherboard, CPU, and video card. So please post new products I should be looking out for. Thanks! :)

newegg newegg newegg :)...

NewEgg.com, best prices for parts.

ASUS P4S533 Motherboard
CMedia integrated sound (best integrated sound available).
SiS integrated 10/100 lan (never had a problem with SiS lan)
GIGABYTE GA-8PE667 Mobo
Onboard Audio, Lan, Raid and USB2

Video card depends on the chipset you want, here's a few that are high rated. I love the Radeon cards but it's all about preference.
ATI RADEON 8500 LE 128MB
GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 3 Ti200 128MB
Chaintech Geforce4 4200 "GT21" Special Edition

Just pick a goo P4 processor (if you use one of the above mobo's), right now I think newegg is having a sale on a few of the P4's

Yeah, I'm looking at building a new computer. My 1.3GHZ Dell is just a piece of crap. Half the time I use my other one (833MHZ) because it just seems to run faster and it's so much more stable. Right now I figure if I can get someone to buy this one for $400 bucks I'll build my own.

Depends on what your primarly using it for. Gaming=I'd go with amd, I'm sure a few would agree, intel is known for stability. Got with the p4 northwood (socket 478), radeon 9700, or 8500 depends how much your spending on other stuff. 512DDR.
I priced out not to long ago, to build a kick ass machine with a p4 2.0ghz, 9700 radeon, 120gb drive 1gb DDR, and a flat screen (not panel) monitor, was around $1400.

Hmmm.. Still noone has answered my question. Are there any products I should be keeping my eye out for that will be released soon? For example, if a new graphics card is coming out or a new processor then I would rather wait a bit and buy it than going with the current ones out. Or is there any site devoted to up-and-coming products? I know there are a lot of hardware sites, but most seem to just focus on reviews and new previews.

Trust me, if you wait for something, you'll be waiting your whole life. Besides, your computer will already be out of date when you build it.

Yes, which is why I am wondering when they will release their next processor because the 3.06 costs about $780.

Only $710 down the drain if you screw up installing the heatsink. :(

Honestly why would you want to spend your money on the latest and greatest cpu to only find out a month later its worth half.

If you are willing to spend up to 2 grand on your computer, you will be able to afford top of the line stuff.

According to AnandTech:
"AMD is fairly certain that they will be able to deliver Athlon 64 to the desktop at the end of Q1 2003 or the beginning of Q2 2003. Realistically, it will be closer to the start of Q2 2003 but we'll keep that tight range open for discussion."

My guess is that you won't be able to buy one of these until late Q2 2003, and that you wouldn't want to buy one until Q3 or Q4, after they work the kinks out.

One thing that does happen when new stuff gets released--price drops. When the Athlon 64 comes out, you will see price drops from both Intel and AMD on their current CPUs.

If I were building a new computer right now, and had $2000, I would build a cheap one. Spend $5 - $700 and build yourself a really nice machine. If you are itching to spend some cha-ching, go get yourself a really nice big flat panel. That will get you nearly up to two grand. And, if you pass on the rip-off monitor, you'll have at least another $1300 to build a really sweet system late next year, which will blow today's $2000 system out of the water.
