VeriSign is increasing its pricing to ALL registrars as of July 1st 2010 as per their notice to us and to ICANN.

.COM will increase by 48 cents USD

.NET will increase by 42 cents USD

They have announced that they will do this already end last year.

I saw this in my Inbox earlier.

Any word on what exactly is the cause of this price increase? 42-48 cents is a lot when you think about how many domain names are purchased.

as to why: because they have a monopoly and ICANN allows them to do so.

I also have my doubts that there is any corelation between their costs of keeping the nameserver infrastructure up and running and the actual .COM price.

insider: If DENIC would have been asigned the .NET zone, we wouldn't see that one going up as well.

I think because ebay owns them now is reason for price increase and company will go downhill.

Ebay, it seems, has acquired the payment Gateway business of Verisign and that was in the year 2005. See https://www.paypal-media.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=180329. Ebay acquiring Verisign registry seems to be a fake news.
