I was browsing around.. Found their site and saw this "deal":

Setup Fee $300.00 (or less with contract)
Monthly Transfer 1 MBPS or 316 GB ($6 per extra GB)
Operating System Your choice
Additional Notes We provide battery backup, rackspace and unlimited reboots.
Hardware Specs 1 GHz processor
2 60 GB IDE Drives (optional RAID 1 for $400, one-time fee)
512 MB RAM
100 MB Ethernet Card (3Com-3c905)
Monthly Fee $900.00

They are seriously asking $900 for this - I'm not trying to bash them at all but I'm wondering how they get any customers with this kind of pricing? How do they do it?

don't foget vdi has been around a lot longer than all these new companies that are going for the cheapest possible pricing structures.

another example could be compaq and other computer manufacturers, compaq is normally prices quite substantially higher for the exact same hardware (or at least the exact same hardware but with a compaq sticker on it and a compaq case with proprietary screws...)

I would bet that if you e-mail sales they might have better pricing... I don't think their site has been updated in a long time.

Well lets not also forget that VDI had a pretty hrm "fun" track record for a good while with major problems every 3 months give or take a few years ago. I wouldn't put them at the cream of the crop granted they have been around.

they do it through smart branding, marketing, business relationship-building, and selling. Most of it I would imagine are offline. they also had enough cashflow to leverage talents that are not available when you only have 5 people in a company.

plus, they have a lot of foreign/overseas clients.. so that might be another reason :)

Looking good. Reasonable prices. Nice design.

Just wondering what ever happened to VDI and its large clientele of web hosting companies? I mean going back 24 months ago there were loads of well-known and growing hosts using VDI. Infact all cPanel hosts were in VDI if I remember correctly. Did you change your service structure or something? Are you going to start targetting hosting companies again?

We still target hosting companies; there are plenty of clients who still have 80 - 200 servers.

We have a lot in store for privacy of companies in the future. such as ip forwarding and taking VDI out of the tracert`s.

In this day and age, reputation is like glass, once cracked you can never really fix it.

so in light of how much we did improve, competition and clients still remember 2 years ago or 5 years ago and use it to leverage a sale or no sale.

We have alot of projects in the works.

VDI model has based it`s prices on realistic Business to Business.

Never got into the $99.99 servers or such, since most are usally either game servers for fun or those who choose the least expensive option. Usally when a business grows to a certain level, they tend not to mind paying $300.00 - $1000.00 for a server that doing $3000.00 - $5000.00 income per server.
