Where do you get 1-800, 1-877, 1-8** numbers? What are the best places? Rates?

Thanks, Chris

You can get a good start by calling your local phone company. After receiving a quote from them do some shopping around on the web then if you find a better deal go back and present that offer to your local phone company again. 9 times out of 10 they will match or beat their competitors quote.

What do they normally charge per month?

Usually it's a flat fee (like $5/month) plus whatever cents-per-minute deal you negotiate. I think the biggies like MCI, AT&T, etc. are around 7 cents per minute.

Do your best to get an 800 number; believe it or not, there are people who don't know that 888/877 are toll free numbers.

I think that there are a few places where you can get that for free in exchange for an advertisement heard at the beginning of each call.

Not sure where though :)

Cheers!

Depends on the type of plan you choose. Some are flat rate charges with a per call charge and others are an all inclusive package that allow a certain number of calls per month included in the price. Call your local phone company for specific pricing as they do vary from company to company.

Don't you get inundated with support calls. I like that system, but I just don't think it would be worth if everyone starts calling for support.

Also take a look at Sprint for toll free numbers. We switched to Sprint because they offered us the most incredible deal :)

I changed our lines over to OPEX for long distance and toll free, and get 4.5 per minute.

We changed off of sprint, and cut our bills in half. They call and I say my rates, and they just say "Ok, Good bye" ... they can't go that low, and my phone quality is just as good.

I got it at this site: (referral to top 10 crap removed)
it belongs to one of my customers, and he talked me into trying it out. Glad he did.

Hey,

Another really good 800 provider is UREACH.COM. They allow you to redirect the 800 number to any phone and you can even have them direct to many different numbers. Its truley amazing. The costs are $6 per month plus you get 30 minutes free for signing up, and then i think its somewhere around 7 to 9 cents per minute after that.

check them out: www.ureach.com

Hey Tim,

I heard a commercial on TV that said Sprint would cut your rates or they would give you $100 in free long distance.

Maybe you should try that and make a $100 in long distance free :)

Yep,

I use them and so far so good.

You can get your own 1-877 number instantly and redirect it to your current number.

dherman76,

I use ureach.com as my personal toll free number (for family, friends etc.) and to receive FAXes.

Monthly cost is $6.99 and you need to prepay phone minutes:

150min $13.49
500min $39.99
1000min $69.99

Unused minutes expire six months from date of purchase.

We use UREACH, they are excellent for routing calls.

Here is my currently billing summary:

$6.99 UREACH Monthly Charge
$13.49 Ureach Extra minutes
$49.99 Sprint Nationwide Cellular service.

only about $70 bucks a month you can have a 1-800 solution for your business.

I have not seen this one before but other companies that I know are uReach.com and TeleDomains.com.

My company currently uses uReach as it Toll-Free Number provider and it has worked quite well. The other company, TeleDomains.com, assists you to further compliment your business identity and overall brand management. They work with you to establish a toll-free number which closely resembles the domain of your site. (i.e. www.yourbiz.com could have a toll-free number like 1-877-YOURBIZ, etc.)

I will check out virtualpbx for it's offering as well.

Hope this helps for those of you who are looking for Toll-Free Services.

Kindest regards,

Jeff

You can check for toll free number availabilty here:
https://small.bus.att.com/small_business/services/toll_free/lookup.jhtml

This will check the 800, 888, 877, and 866 numbers.

You will find it's very hard to get what you want. Use wildcards ** in your searches.

We've been using AccessLine (http://www.accessline.com) for a couple of months and so far they've been really good. We pay $12.99/mo. plus 6.3 cents/min. They will forward the 800# to 2 different lines which adds to the professionalism ("press 1 for sales, press 2 for tech support, etc."). They seem similar to ureach as far as I can tell. Worth a look.

uReach.com is good. My company has been using it for over a year. It works well for us. Their top plan is $6.99/mo and includes cool functionality like:

We have it established to play a message when somone calls and then "try to locate a free agent". If it can not locate a free agent, it prompts you to leave a voice message which goes into your voicemail box. Once new messages are left, it notified our all of our agents by email. It can also notify by Pager and/or ICQ, I believe.

It's cheap, works well and has brough much satisfaction to our company.

PS: Purchasing minutes for the service is not all that bad either. I think you can get like 1000 minutes for 69.99, or $.06/minute. They have less minutes available up to a maximum of $.08/minute.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

That is their outbound calls. Their 800 inbound is 9.9 cents a minute. I found this out AFTER I called to inquire and was lied to by the sales who said I had to be a outbound customer before they could setup 800. After I agreed they transfered me to the 800 dept. only to find out that they couldn't place my 800 order until I was active which would be 48 hours AND the 800 cost was 9.9 cents a minute NOT the 5.9 they offer for outbound.

Still a good price on outbound calls but was lied to by sales because he said the 800 was also 5.9 and that they could set it up after I placed order for outbound service.

Yes, uReach is an awesome service especially for smaller companies desiring to have visibility and accessibility through a toll-free number for it's clients. I have been using uReach for over a year and do not care to change.

I'm a little late on this thread, but I would like to add that myown888.com has an EXCELLENT service!

They take quite a long time to setup a number, but there no setup fees, nor monthly fees!

$.5 is really low... my bills are always super low, first bill was $1.98 lol...

Even if you decide you don't need the line for a couple of months, you won't receive any bills at all! :dgrin:

You made a good choice, trust me!

The whole thing at first looks a little fishy and unprofessional, but then when I received my first bill, it was VERY detailed. The company that appears on the bill is RLSCOM or RSLCOM.

I think it took me a week to receive my number, but it's worth the wait.

Good luck! :)

I'll give a shout out to FreedomStarr.com -- I had them before (don't have the 800 number now). The sign up was quick, they deducted off my checking after faxing over my voided check. The pricing was free unless you were under $50 on your calls, then it was a $5/month. Detailed billing was also available on their web site. The only cons on it was that they wouldn't let me choose the number I wanted.

I signed up with myown888.com about a year ago, and I've been very pleased. I believe that they just refer clients to RSLCOM or something, because you'll never deal with myown888.com again after signing up.

I recommend it!:D

I have also been using Accessline and am EXTREMELY pleased. They have a really cool web interface that you can listen to voice mails. The phone number they give you can also be used as a fax.

I have it setup so that if I receive a voice mail it sends emails to my home, work and cell phone. Very fast.

Going back on what i said, I would NOT recommend TeleDomains. (www.teledomains.com)

From the get-go, I have had nothing but problems with this company, from my toll free number not being able to work, from places around the US and Alaska, but my toll free number failed to work.

The company they used also dropped off the face of the earth and went into chapter 11, so my toll free was out of service for about 2 weeks

Now, they claim my credit card was declined (humm, works fine at KMart!) and they tired to request a new credit card via email (HAHAHA)

After I told them how they wake up in the morning and dress themselves by trying to request a credit card via email, they refuse to give me a number i can call to give them the new card (or verify it) and now they say "We can not accept any more credit cards from you, we will require a $100 wire transfer from you to re-activate your service"

OMG. It seems to me this company is run out of someones basement and is clearly a reseller for someone else

Well

We use a bunch of different things, and or will be in the upcoming few weeks.

We have 1 toll free at Ureach
we have 1 toll free at At&t
We are having accessline setup also

Then we also like a affordable hardware product called www.talkswitch.com.

Overall we are headed to use talkswitch to solve our problem for most of the stuff. TalkSwitch 48-LS- is the model.

It isnt the cheapest solution being 1400$, but overall for what we are spending on phone stuff right now, we would actually save much money.

I do think accessline looks interesting, but dont have total expierence yet.

try cheapest800.com i use them and its only 4.9 cents per min. last month i got 82 calls with a total of 357.2 minutes and my bill was only $20.05. another thing to look at is the billing increments. theirs is only 6 sec. which means that is you only get/make a 2.2 min call you only pay 11 cents and not 15 cents like most company do it. some even have a 2 min call minimum so even if you only speak half a minute you have to pay the whole 2 min. you may say its only a couple of cents but when your making and getting all these calls with a total of hundreds of minutes it starts to add up. the other thing is that they have a $15 minimum so if your bill totals $10 you dont have to pay $15 they only add a $2.50 charge. many companies will charge you the full $15 even if you dont use the line at all. these people will only charge you $2.50. those are all things to look at.

I have a toll free 877 number, but havent gotten a bill for it in over 2 years. I remember there was a small monthly fee. I canceled the account with them. I found out a couple of months later that they had canceled the billing, but not the service. Family across the states have been calling me free for a year and a half, and I still have yet to get a bill after I cancelled it..LOL

Anyway, I did some searching at http://ld.net and you can goto http://ld.net/1plus/ to see all the 4.9 cent toll free carriers..

By the way, these are all companies that have just one-few people working for them. They simply purchase minutes in bulk from the major carriers and get extreme discounts. That's how they are able to compete. Electricity here in Texas just went the same route....and I am getting into it :D
