Hello all,

We currently host under the name eva-hosting.com and are trying to acquire the eva-designs.com domain for the design side of our business.

Apparently it is registered but whois says,

Domain Name: EVA-DESIGNS.COM
Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com
Name Server: NS53.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Name Server: NS54.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 11-may-2010
Creation Date: 30-mar-2007
Expiration Date: 30-mar-2010

According to this it should be expired, but what does the Updated field mean? As the Expiration date has not been altered.

Any information on this would be great.

Thanks!
Eva

Can you please explain why GoDaddy will not let me register the domain? If it's expired how are they still able to manage it?

You can mail them and let them know you want to register your domain name.It is posible that they block it because they want to protect the name from companys with software systems how search the internet for expired domains.

Normally when a domain expires, it will stop working immediately, but there is a grace period where the original owner can just pay up, and get the domain turned back on. After that, there is a redemption period, where the original owner can retrieve the domain for a (substantial) fee. It will then have a status of pending delete, and finally it is deleted and available for registration by the general public.

Are you buying the domain with godaddy or want the domain with an other hosting company. If you do want an other hosting company to buy the domain godaddy will say they can register the domain yes for 45 days if they want to.I believe you dont have to worry to mutch because godaddy will not release every domain to a redemtion domain broker. Then you have to pay 30 to 100 dollars for the domain. If you have an establised hosting company with a know brand you always can ask the domain back.

It will drop, 75-78 days after the expiry date. You will be able to register it after the drop. You could backorder it at GoDaddy if you want to add some security in obtaining the domain. I don't normally recommend GoDaddy backorders, but they will probably be able to capture this not so desirable domain.
