I've looked around and from what I can tell most billing companies (pay pal, 2checkout, ccbill) keep the billing on there site. But I was wondering w/out getting a mercanet account myself is there anyway I can run the software on my server and still use on of those many types of billing companies. Like I install some code onto my site and when a person checks out it just posts it to one of there server and sends a message back to mine. Sorta like the IPN with pay pal but w/out the username nad password stuff.

If you need this explained alittle better please ask. Thanks :)

There are many software programs which can run on your server without any problems. A lot are also integrated with most of the third party gateways as well as merchant gateways. One in particular that I recommend is www.modernbill.com
