If you aren't willing put forth the time and effort to properly learn the OS and administer your server or, at least, to pay someone who is qualified then I suggest dropping out of this business completely. I absolutely guarantee that you'll have so many headaches and disasters that you'll wish you weren't lazy to begin with. I'm not trying to be unkind. I speak from years of experience and lots and lots and lots of mistakes. rlynch 12-08-2002, 06:24 PM how is using a GUI being lazy? if tehy can both accompllish the same goals then i dont see a problem. Shadowrunner 12-08-2002, 06:28 PM I'll second Dragoon on that one.. If you aren't willing and able to at least get comfortable on the shell (natural state of use for a server) then you'd better pay someone who is, or find a great fully managed dedicated server host that offers full support, something like CPanel so you can add accounts and so clients can install message boards and shopping carts and stuff without you knowing how. Be aware that eventually everything breaks, and when it does, you or someone else had better know how to fix it or you could get yourself into a real jam. rlynch 12-08-2002, 06:31 PM so poeple who use webmin dont know what teyh aer doing? zerphyte 12-08-2002, 06:51 PM Originally posted by rlynch so poeple who use webmin dont know what teyh aer doing? That pretty much correct in most cases. Deposeni 12-08-2002, 08:54 PM Would webmin work on rackshack server? (Ensim - redhat server package) Also, learning unix/linux commands is fun! Who needs a GUI when all you have to do is type? JonL 12-08-2002, 09:23 PM Webmin might come in conflict with Ensim especially because Ensim uses chroots for each user. I have never tried but I imagine you would run into problems. jolly 12-09-2002, 08:24 AM Somethings should be left in the hands of professionals......... Should never mess around if you are doing hosting business. One wrong command and your server is gone..... :D Darth 12-09-2002, 09:14 AM Originally posted by rlynch so poeple who use webmin dont know what teyh aer doing? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That pretty much correct in most cases. Should I kill you now or later? :santa: A lot of people use webmin, including experts :stickout: soundguy 12-11-2002, 03:06 AM A web based GUI does nothing if Apache won't start. ;) levik 12-11-2002, 03:11 PM That's why Webmin has its own perl-based web server. It *would* be pretty useless if it was at the mercy of the software it administers. |
