If you do please let me know what control panel you use etc :)

Summit Servers runs FreeBSD. For HL/HL2 based games BSD is just fine.

Run whatever you know how to secure/administer the best. I know HLDS/srcds at least should run on everything.

No control panels, and we're not a GSP... but stress-testing a new machine that's not urgently needed usually involves some TF2 or Left4Dead. They run great on FreeBSD, however I had to play some games with the sysctl variables for linuxulator to get a 2.6 kernel, and then install a different linux_base for the 2.6 kernel... srcds ran like garbage when emulating a 2.4 kernel for me.

Most any flavor would work fine however tweaking it is where you will find the extra juice so my advise would be choose whichever distro you are comfortable with.

Well you should also mention that you have a guru who customizes your BSD kernels and binaries for HLDS/SRCDS :) :agree:

We've got a great team, no question.

For anyone who is even reasonable familiar with Nix/BSD, running game servers won't be tough.
