I think it's funny but I'll bet your friend didn't. :) Red Circle Web Hosting 04-22-2001, 09:08 PM ***** Offers Incentives To Help California Website Owners Escape Power Outages Free setup; free month of service to any California customer who switches their site. Bedford, Texas (April 10, 2001) -- Recognizing the headaches that California’s power outages can mean for people worried about website downtimes, ***** is offering a package of incentives to any California customer who moves a website to *****. The offer is good for shared web hosting accounts with a California provider, a dedicated server or a co-location customer. *****, the fastest-growing leader in e-business solutions and the Web hosting industry, is offering California customers: Free setup Free month of service Free managed services, including reboots, simple administration and advanced monitoring Same day setup on dedicated servers Thirty-second setup on a shared hosting account "Our backup generators can power our facility for 180 hours without using one watt of power from our electric company," said Christopher Faulkner, President and CEO of *****. "In addition, we have seismically braced racks that can withstand hurricanes, tornadoes and winds in excess of 200 miles per hour." Besides being able to guarantee that their customers’ websites will stay up no matter what weather or power problems occur, ***** has recently redesigned its network infrastructure to protect against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and network attacks aimed at domain name servers. The redesign allows for three, fully redundant domain name servers on different IP networks. "Having backup name servers on different networks helps us minimize threats from a single Internet attack or outage," Faulkner said. "Our third name server does not share the same physical network as our primary and secondary name servers, giving us greater flexibility in combating attacks. We strive to ensure our clients have 100% up-time and this new architecture solidifies that." Ahhh yet another hedake for california ! :D JTY 04-22-2001, 09:35 PM Anyone using a quality data center in California, would have no problems. DigitalXWeb 04-22-2001, 11:04 PM Originally posted by JTY Anyone using a quality data center in California, would have no problems. I agree!! "Our backup generators can power our facility for 180 hours without using one watt of power from our electric company," said Christopher Faulkner, President and CEO of *****. "In addition, we have seismically braced racks that can withstand hurricanes, tornadoes and winds in excess of 200 miles per hour." I would like to see the test data and or the footage for the rack claim. The rack may still be standing but everything else would be gone at those wind speeds not to mention debris. Fred 04-22-2001, 11:35 PM You see Chris Faulkner fails to see what the real trouble is. it is NOT power shortages in California, it isnt the ability to withstand 200 MPH winds, the problem is that ***** has HORRIBLE tech, customer and billing support. There are only 2 departments that work well over there, one is the sales dept and the other is advertising and Public Relations...THAT'S IT! and that will be their downfall... XTStrike 04-23-2001, 03:43 AM Originally posted by IntelligentHosting.com I think it's funny but I'll bet your friend didn't. :) you would be right, im far from impressed!! and i just got this lovely confirmation from *****: "We have received your notice to CANCEL your account with *****" (SH)Saeed 04-23-2001, 06:40 AM There are 2 ways you can make money in the webhosting business.. Nr1 (The hard way) Take care of your customer and hire competent staff. This option will probably take a while before you start making any money. Nr2 (The easy way) Make a nice and professional looking website, get good sales staff and target on customers that don't have much knowledge about the service you're selling them. The thing is there are so many people wanting webhosting and most of them go to a site like ***** and offcourse they're gonna fall for their BS! That is why ***** is still in business. Even though a lot of people leave them after a few months. If they would have tried to offer better service and get better tech staff they would have been making atlest 3-4 times the money they are making now. But as we all know, the bigger the company gets the less time they have for the individuals. All their time and resources go for how to market their services and get new clients. Barak 04-23-2001, 08:46 AM "In addition, we have seismically braced racks that can withstand hurricanes, tornadoes and winds in excess of 200 miles per hour." OK, anyone else but me think that saying the racks are "seismically braced" is a bit meaningless when it then doesn't list earthquakes/volcanoes/any other seismic activity under what the racks can withstand? Bit pedantic, but thought I'd say it anyway ;) |
