I'd like to buy a .com domain. WHOIS reveals the following:

Registrar: WILD WEST DOMAINS, INC.
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 22-apr-2010
Creation Date: 11-mar-2005
Expiration Date: 11-mar-2010

From reading on here it seams that its taken a long time from the expiry date to still be in redemption. I've also looked on auctions.godaddy.com and its not listed for auction.

Any advice on what to expect and the best means of getting this domain would be much appreciated. It doesn't seam to be following the pattern I expected after reading the guides and posts here, so I'm a little confused.

I would backorder it at godaddy.

and keep watching the auctions.

Thanks I've put that in place. Looking more tonight I saw on a note that Godaddy only auction for domains registered after 2nd May 2005. The domain I'm looking at was registered Marsh 2005. Unfortunately the Godaddy document was silent on what the osition was for domains before then. If anyone knows the process that would be great.

Well I wouldn't have backordered it at Godaddy. If it's already in redemption it's already been through godaddy auctions, and will drop within 30 days. The date of expiry is the most important thing. Count 75-78 days from then and it will drop. Now you have a backorder on it, GoDaddy might capture it. But they are fighting with every other dropcatcher for the domain. After about day 70, I'd check SnapNames, NameJet, and Pool to see if anyone else has backordered it. Keep checking daily. If no backorders then GoDaddy will probably capture it.
