What brand is that server? If you build it yourself, you can do around $700 or even less.

BTW, does the color of the CDROM makes any difference to the server? :D

cheers,

Theres no way you could do it for under $700 if you were using a decent chasis!

It not worth sacrificing things like build and cooling just to save a couple of hundred bucks!

Absolutely it can be done for well under $1000. We are talking US dollars, aren't we?

Under $1k no worries but not under $ 700!

I suppose we do get ripped off a bit in the UK mind ;))

Also depends what 815 board you're using....

We pay quite a lot for our chasis but they are top grade and really worth it in the end :)

I'd say chasis and cpu cooling runs us approx $ 350 !

I would possibly look into Ebay for the parts, or even the entire server. I haven't done this, but it seems like it might keep your budget down.

I have to agree that $700 is pushing it a bit, the case and motherboard we use comes to $460 along for 1U, but it is good quality, supermicro motherboard, it also has very good cooling.

I got it to about $970 from AcmeMicro.com, less if you don't want a black CD-ROM.

I can get Supermicro SC811-IDE 1U case (less FDD/CD combo) for only around $210-$220. I found it on www.pricewatch.com sometimes ago.

Hmm.. I configured one with a 1U case for $927.93 inclusive of shipping charges. Someone reccommended http://computer-aid.com to me for rackmount cases, and so far mine has been good.

Call the sales guys at www.aproimage.com, and tell them Skye referred you for 1U servers. I will give them a heads-up.
