Hi Guys

Need a little advice please, I have a new client I am trying to help out, long story short her website and domain was looked after my a friend of hers who moved overseas, since then she has not been able to contact her and her website went down.

I have since copied the website over to myself as I had a backup and we are all up and running again on a slightly different domain name.

But she really wants her domain name, I know the transfer procedure but if we can't get the old host to answer emails or unlock the domain what can I do? The domain name is in my clients name so that isn't an issue.

Anyone had this happen to them or know a way to transfer the domain name away from old host to new host?

Thank you

Stu

What extension is it? .com, a ccTLD? You can ask your new Provider to help, usually they know the procedures.

Hi, its a .com , you think speaking to UKREG they would be able to help me out then?

Contact the registrar directly. TUcows, nominet ect. That might help. But you will also need a solid NS to give to them. It will cost you, but you will definetly get it back.

I had a similar problem with a customer of mine some time ago.
The host didn't list a Tel No. so I got contact details via companies house and phoned them that way.
They were a bit shocked that I managed to get a number that they didn't think was listed anywhere lol :D

Anyway, just an idea as it worked for me..!

Good luck.

When, or if, you get this sorted, you might consider doing the "right thing" which is to ensure that the domain registrant is your friend and not yourself.

So she owns the domain but the old webhost has the actual log-in credentials to lock/unlock domain? That could be tricky. The registrar is going to need mucho documentation before they'll allow you/her to make changes to the DNS settings of the domain...
