I see all these company's having a 100mb/sec connection. I was wondering what I would need to establish that. I heard i need a really expensive router and a computer beside that, which will run 24/7 with a special program on it..

I'm stumped please help me out.

Thanks

if you own a server, you can colo them at any data centre near you.

First off you need to bi in an area that supports it. You can't just get 100mbits run into your house anywhere. As far as equipment goes, you'll need a router and that's it. (Of course machines to use the connection would be nice.)

Figure something like this, if it's available in your area would cost you roughly. $14,000 - $20,000 per month depending on your provider.

Tbh, these ppl that say they have connections to this that and the others, there either resellers, or are lying.

None of these small hosts you see realyl do have 100mbit pipes, they may be on a 100mbit pipe. But they certainly dont own it.

Only the bigger hosts will have there own 100mbit connections etc.

Just a T-1 line (1.544Mbps) costs at least $500 per month, so 100Mbps is way more than most people would really spend unless they had a whole center with lots of servers. It just wouldn't make sense.

A 100mbit isnt that much (in cost). Espically in terms of UK b/w. But it gets expensive when you need International.

The price like a T1 woul most probably be a home/office installation. Not a cost if you were at a datacenter.

the 100mbits that most companies claim to offer to clients are normally shared among many other people. If they are resellers, they are normally told that the connection is 100mbits and they just take it that they get a dedicated 100mbits, its never true.

And its very costly to own a 100mbits connection. Correct me if i am wrong.

It is, so it makes me wonder how the resellers get away by saying such things as:

"Servers on our 100mbit connection, in our own purpose built datacenter.." - etc etc.
