We will soon be offering fully multihomed bandwidth through another four providers. Currently burstable to 20mbit/s. IP to ping: 81.3.74.129, you can see how close with are to the LINX by doing a trace route from them to us here (http://www.linx.net/tools/stats/looking-glass.thtml?run=true&site=LINX-London&query_type=+Trace&address=81.3.74.129&.cgifields=query_type).
Some additional options listed below, we will try to accommodate your every need, so if you want a custom anything (os, servers, bandwidth, network, whatever) talk to us and we'll work something out. We always try to provide any services as economically as possible without sacrificing quality. The servers are not built by us, but manufactured by a professional company (Jool). If you need additional hard drive, memory etc the cost will be very close to national prices.
[Additional Options]

The Laughing Cow 12-07-2002, 03:30 PM Are the servers managed at all? Do you have people 24/7 on support (if it should be needed at a premium?)
The servers are unmanaged.
Jool do have telephone support for their control panel/server. I believe this is office hours only.
We have technicians availible 24x7 for emergencies, e.g. server not responding, and any other major problems.
Although the servers are unmanged, we will of course help out as much as we can within reason. We are a friendly company, having unmanged servers does not mean you are "out in the cold", it simply means you run/maintain it. We always make sure you are ok, and if there are problems we often help by providing information to help (guides etc), but we do not step in and maintain the server. I hope thats clear (but i have a feeling its not, so...) basically, you run it, we will help if we can within reason.
And yes, if a hard drive were to die, God forbid, we can have it replaced within a half hour, even at 3am.
Also forgot to mention, we have a "Rent to Own" scheme, it costs £25 per month extra (just for this one server deal we are doing at the moment), and after 12 months, you own the server. We can have it sent to you, you could come and pick it up, or you could colo it with us. We are in close partnership with Jool, hence the ability to offer such deals and also to be able to put in for customistions/additions made to the control panel.
a really good idea my friend - well thought of.
Thanks, we aim to please.
The Laughing Cow 12-07-2002, 06:56 PM Agreed, lovely deal - is the 30min hard disk replacement in a SLA? network uptime SLA?
We have a SLA in line with what we receive from our upstream (NewNet), this is included as a subsection of our TOS on the website.
The hard drive replacement time is something which is not guaranteed, however we do have stock of replacement parts on site, and as you probably know RedBus technicians are on site 24x7, who can replace a hard drive with a phone call. We also have our own technicians within 15 mins drive, who customers can page 24x7 in emergency. We have servers which can be used as standby servers, so if a motherboard for example were to fail, we could have the hard drive removed and put into a new server. We feel for the price we charge this is more than satisfactory, if a customer wanted more this could be discussed with us as an additional option.
BenDoherty 12-09-2002, 05:45 AM NewNet is a tier 1 provider?!?!
Regards
Ben
According to their staff, RedBus people, and also the front of their website:
"NewNet is an established Tier 1 Internet access provider, with a UK/European network build using a sound financial model. "
http://www.newnet.co.uk
We also have a special multi-homed deal being worked out at the moment, when that is ready we will notify everyone. But at present, we are just with NewNet.
The Laughing Cow 12-09-2002, 08:40 AM I guess it comes down to a definition of what "Tier 1" is.
BenDoherty 12-09-2002, 09:00 AM Well NewNet dont own a national or international network do they? And they buy transit from other companies? Also i dont think they freely peer in most peering locations? Meaning they are not tier1. But as terry said it does depend on your definition. They may buy transit from tier 1 providers, but i dont think it makes them tier 1?
Not sure
Regards,
Ben
Well, I'm just going by the material I am given. Either way the provide good bandwidth, are quite a few hops less from the LINX than that of IP's I have seen on Easynet... We are very open with what we provide and use, NewNet, according to them and RedBus they are Tier1, label them as you wish but they still provide a good service. :)

Just a small point - hops really do not make any difference to the end user - just as long as overall latency is good. Besides, it's easy to hide hops by using tunnels and MPLS - so you never really know how many routers your IP traffic is passing through. (I'm not suggesting newnet do this, but I know of quite a few providers that do!).
NewNet are good - one of a few providers (read Mistral) which basically just provide really good access to Linx without having to become a Linx member!
Anyway, good to see another UK provider being more realistic with bandwidth allowances (considering the current wholesale rates!).
