Has anyone used Homestead as a Host? I so what do you think/thought about it?

I use before when it is a free host. I don't suggest it. It will make you look like

My first host was Homestead. My first ex-host was Homestead.

Don't use them. Grandma told me if I couldn't said something nice about someone, to say nothing. I'm going to follow that advice for once.

I remember using them when they were free too.. I thought they were great. Though I wouldn't use them now.

If you use their site builder to build your site, you will not be able to move the site to another host when you get tired of Homestead. The builder adds too much stuff to your code that only works at Homestead and it is easier to rebuild the site than to try to remove all the umm... can I say crap?

We all have to start somewhere.
but if you want to start a little closer to the top, I wouldn't suggest homestead.

You know, they won't stop sending me MAIL!!!! I used them once to just try them out, back when they were free, and they STILL send me mail... Probably sold off my name too. God I hate that... I think even if I had a few million accounts, I still wouldn't sell my account emails. It's just not right...

I used homestead a long time ago. Thought it was great then. Now I can see how limited it was, but if you're just starting out and that's all you need, might be worth a shot.

Does Geocities still exist? I think I'd go with them before homestead...

I appreciate all your comments and help. I just want to find a strong reliable host. You know, one I won't have to worry about so I can worry about my new business. There are so many out there and I don't want to get ripped off.

Yeah, I'd definitely stay away from homestead. I wasn't impressed when I used them (although in their defense that was probably around 5 years ago).

I guess I looked into them because I wanted a web site buider tool and theirs looked interesting. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get one of those? Or is this question too off the topic for this forum? If it is, thanks to everyone who let me know about Homestead. I really appreciate it

There are many hosts who offer website builders as part of their hosting package. Try doing a search for it on the forum and you should return some positive results.

Agreed. I noticed that too. I had to end up blocking them.

Homestead is definately a No. Even though I've never had an account with them, I've heard tons of complaints from other people :)

I used to use them when I first started. I cannot see why the other complain so much. It was free and my site was NEVER down.

homestead ???

sorry, couldn't help myself,

I started with them yes, it was OK for someone like me then .. an absolute newbie and it was free, and I enjpyed the fact that I could put up a website

but the best thing that could have happened is when they started to charge .. and to charge right through the roof .. and so many of us left

now, for the price - what they offer is not worth it

apart from anything else like the crazed coding that is designed not to work anywhere else (and that mysterious 4th page), you would be just paying through the nose for nothing much at all really

if you feel that the site builder is what you want, why not have a look at http://www.homepagebuilders.com/ you get a builder and a choice of free or low-cost hosting .. perhaps the fabpage link at that url would do for starters .. try it out for free for a while and see how you can go .. it's a good place to begin .. best of luck !

You know, you could dish out a *little* bit of cash (like $20-30/year) and get a very limited offer w/domain name. Probably like 100mb, 2gb/month, some POP, MySQL, etc. Nothing big but no ads. And from there, who knows! And FrontPage is a good newbie program to use ... it'll put crap code in but not as bad as some other places do ... Homestead = building webpage with MS Word.
