A quick question on the Raq4 OS restore. I have the OS download and it labeled some like 960-raq4s10au.iso.gz. The question is I understand the .iso part of the ext. but does the .gz have a meaning or can I just rename the file and burn to a CD-R since it needs to be booted from a different computer connected to the Raq4 with a cross over cable. I have a background in microsoft and netware servers so this is a little new!

It's a gzipped file, to make it smaller to download. Do

gzip -d file.gz

to uncompress it. Then do

md5sum file.iso

and compare it to the contents of the filename.md5sum file which is also in the ISO image directory on the FTP server. This will ensure you won't burn a coaster.

After the uncompress, you'll have an ISO, which you need to burn specially to the CD. Don't just burn the file like a regular data file; you have to tell it to burn from an ISO image. Actual steps to burn an ISO image depend on the software you use.

after a replay to my question, I was able to uncompress the OS.ios.gz file and create a CD-R. I did not have any problems , CD booted in the workstation and the Raq4 was connected to the cross-over cable. I restarted the Raq4 holding down the S key on the front pannel and all is well. I then followed up with all the patches. This is great site, I have been a reading through the messages or the last couple of months and it has helped.

These blue boxes are a long way from netware.
I also built a new netware 5.1 box and setup up a secound name server that I will us with my Raq4.
