Just a quick question i just wanted to know what yall think or would do....

Im sitting here on our live chat program and someone is checking out our services and comes into live chat...he asks the basic questions about the plans this and that...not odd at all...then he goes do you have a firewall i go yes...then he goes okay i will need the passwords...so that way i can start early for my coldfusion...i go okay well you wont need thos passwords all you will need is the ftp password and username and ip address....he goes well i need the firewall and password..i go well im sorry yo do not need this to host...u know he keeps going on ask about firewalls we have what we run this and....doesn't seem that unusal...then here is where it gets strange he goes on again about teh firewall asking if people can get in and i go no they can but knowing if you are really good you can...then he goes well i need the passwords so that way i can run my vb scripts along with my C scripts...i go im sorry you will not need this...then after 30 mintues i go "to inform you i am the system administrator here one of 3 from what i have stated you will not need this...also from my point of view from what you keep asking it makes it seem like you want to know the passwords so you can harm our servers.." after 5 mintues he gets made saying for someone who is a administrator / supervisor there you do not know anything bout customer relations and goes on and on and and all i wanted to know do you think it was right for me to say that? or do you think ti was odd he kept asking????? just from a tech/admin point of view??

Well, I think that person was a little annoying, but I don't think he wanted to harm your servers. I think he just didn't know very much about this kind of stuff  You may have been a little hard on him though.

I wouldn't have discussed it with him at all; except to say that it's in place and maybe what it is.
Yes, it would be strange someone asking once. Let alone, over and over.
He obviously didn't knnow enough to harm your servers though.

he may have been confused as to what passwords he really needs. maybe he was talking about SSH access. I agree with SWR tho, no reason to get into details of your security that aren't necessary other than simple answers.

I know this sounds cold and heartless but if he was just a clueless coldfusion developer you're probably better off without him. If he needs that kind of hand-holding, support for this guy would have been a constant 24 hour mission. A support forum can't become a virtual classroom. It's just not feasible.

I think you handled it fine, and SWR is quite right, if he thinks he's going to find a host stupid enough to figuratively unlock the doors for him to come right in, then he doesn't really know enough to do any damage ;)
