Lately there has been a lot of talk about fraudulent hosts advertising on WHT, why not prevent them from posting using a form very much like the ones used on IRC networks to verify the reliability of a server? On an irc network when you want to link your server you have to prove you really have a server and know how to run it by a form with about 20 questions on it. the same think can easily be designed for a webhosting company. basically before someone can advertise their service or specials here you could make them fill out this form, have a small team of knowledgable hosts (or moderators) that could verify the validity of the applicant, once approved they could post their specials and such. it may not be perfect but it could stop a lot of problem hosters

Something certainly should be, and thisa isn't a bad idea, but I don't think its realistics. WHT grows quickly, so it would be hard to find someone willing to do the applications. Plus, its much easier for rackshack to thats its our business who we deal with and who we get burned by, yada yada yada...

I think its a very good idea - its easy to say that WHT hasn't got any responsibility for what happens here but I believe that it is reasonable to expect them to take some simple steps to prevent the forum being used for fraudulent purposes. A simple check on "advertisers" seems to me to be a minimum commitment on their part.

Good idea, however it sounds like alot more work that people would need to put forth.

from what i've seen, the fraud is committed mostly by people who have sites etc, and could not be discovered without a pretty thorough background check.

its really not that much work, to start with if they have to fill out an application to be allowed to advertise most people wont bother, secondly those that do fill out a form a simple check would determine if they have the ability to deliver. i would estimate a 5 minute check on most any host would determine their validity

Well, anything to reduce fraud is good, though I'm not sure this would accomplish this exactly. As the forum grows, I'd hate to think how long it would take for 5 minute checks (5 minutes x the numebr of people who advertise here). I personally spend upwards of 3 hours a day (sometimes more) just handling current issues and I ::shudder:: to think of how long this would take.

The idea is great, if it could be worked out so that the goal could be accomplished (which I'm unsure of). I just don't know if it is practical or not.

Some of these suggestions we leave for headsurfer to look at :D
