a client of ours would like to have his own shared environment. they want the following features:

1) Manage windows & linux.
2) Easy to support and not high maintenance.
3) flexible
4) user friendly.
5) Great support
6) Easy way to manage DNS, FTP Accounts, MSSQL, MySQL, and all the good stuff via web browser.
7) very few minor bugs are ok, and still growing
8) offer Reseller plans

based on our research, we have found 3, however please feel free to recommend others,
1) Hosting Controller. --> supposedly the best one out there from what we hear.
2) Plesk --> I think very common, personally have not used them in the past.. what do you think
3) Hsphere --> I personally love it, though I do not think they will be updating anymore, I think since parallels bought them, they basically wanted it out of competition, I do not think they will add anything to it.

Tell me what you think :)

Though HSphere is the second alternative after Hosting Controller but unfortunately you would not find updates for it on regular basis which makes Hosting Controller the best competitor among the 3 control panels.

I will recommend you to go for Hosting Controller. We are smoothly using it since last 3 years now.

Hosting Controller is the better option among the 3 panels. Got a newsletter recently from Hosting Controller that they have provided Migration utility from Plesk 9 to Hosting Controller. Was wondering when would they launch such utility for migration from other control panels like DNP , HSphere. I feel really sad for both DNP and HSphere. Were good panels but I do not see their future in the market. May be both would be dumped soon :(

Everyone has there own perspective towards Panel, its never ending war.

Hosting controller, we tried them for Shared Exchange and dropped it in testing phase itself.
Very less help/fixes available through support/forum

Plesk is good control panel we ran/host 700+ domains quite robust, but need lot of administration and support for SWSOFT.[drawback, all service run on same physical server]
Help/fixes is easily available through support/forum.

Dotnet panel[Expensive]is quite good/robust if you SPAN the shared environment, 1 server for each service. One for IIS, one for MSSQL, one for Mail, one for Portal. Such setup can handle 1500+ websites.
Help/fix and not available on forum, all support through paid ticket system.

Restoration perspective.

Hosting controller -- No experience as we dropped them.

Plesk panel = restoration takes huge time, I am considering 700 domain. One server down, all services down.

Dontnet panel = restoration is easy and fast as only one service/server need to be restored. Ahh but if DB server down, all sites using DB as back-end will go down.

I dont agree with you on that. In my opinion Hosting Controller provides one of the best possible supports. Their response time is immensly fast. Their resolution of issues is generally swift and they even have a developers corner in their forums. You can mail them anytime and will get a response in a jiffy.

Even when DNP was there its feature list and functionality never matched that of Hosting Controller. Now that its dead, the best alternative would be HC.

I am with hosting controller for almost 5 years now and never regretted my decision even a single day of switching from plesk to HC. Unlike SWSoft and now Parallels, they don't charge me for every time I contact them.. the support team is always available round the clock and most importantly, its a pretty stable Windows and linux control panel.

Blessed.

DirectAdmin does not support management of both Windows and Linux. I think what OnlineRack is looking for fits only with Hosting Controller or HSphere.
