dektong 04-20-2001, 06:32 PM What does it tell you if pinging to your server gives you 0% packet loss, traceroute to your server shows that there is no problem anywhere yet you can't access your server (http) and you can't login into your server? When I try to telnet into the server, it accepted my login name yet it can't pas the password verification. It's doing something like this:
Red Hat Linux release 6.2 (Zoot)
Kernel 2.2.14-5.0 on an i686
login: indoweb
Password:
and stucks there forever....

dektong 04-20-2001, 06:43 PM Currently, 6:37p, from my server at weinbar...
--- site5.com ping statistics ---
50 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
Yet, http://www.site5.com loads fast...
So what's going on?
cheers,

acetate 04-20-2001, 06:44 PM I'm having the same problem as you.. However I got in further.. After doing a directory listing, it freezes there.. Also froze when I'm checking my mail.. I trying to access interserver and nothing.. Tracert route to my server and don't see anything wrong.. Oh well.. VDI again! =P
*crosses fingers for April 24th*
dektong 04-20-2001, 06:52 PM So... it's not just me!!!
It can't be VDI since VenturesOnline, Webhostingtalk, and etc are all fine... Is your server/account hosted directly with VDI or with a secondary company inside VDI (in my case, interserver.net)??
cheers,
acetate 04-20-2001, 06:54 PM I'm with interserver.. It's fine now.. Strange eh? hehe.
routing problem?
dektong 04-20-2001, 06:57 PM It's fine now... you are right. So it's not VDI problem, but interserver's problem? And you said there was a routing problem? How come? Traceroute was fine, ping was fine and there was a routing problem?
cheers,
acetate 04-20-2001, 07:01 PM Well that's what I think since it took awhile to obtain the last hop to my server.. And the hop before that had an *. So that's what I thought it might be a routing problem within VDI's network.. Maybe..............

As I remember correctly I read somewhere a while ago that Site5 just eats your pings for breakfast. ie. it looks like an error but it's not. They just don't allow you to ping their servers. :)

Vince 04-21-2001, 10:15 PM We do indeed block ICMP to that machine - If you would like a machine within our network to ping/traceroute to, use neural.site5.com.

Vince.
dektong 04-21-2001, 10:18 PM Hei Vince...
Yea I just remembered that Site5 blocks ping request...
BTW, where is Matt? is he around? I need to talk with him, to finish what we talked about a week ago... Who are you, sales, tech? :D Can I talk with you instead of Matt, if he is not around?
