I am about to host couple of sites. Never bought a domain name, never hired a host...(never had to). I've been reading cnet and your suggestions as not to buy a domain from my host, even if the host offers it for free. Do you have any suggestion if I should go with godaddy or namecheap or any other registrar? If so, why one and not the other? I personally liked nameCheap because their website is more organized (beside the annoying flash on the homepage) Any non-biased suggestion is appreciated.

either one would be a good choice.

I have both and prefer namecheap.com, but both are good choices.

I like GoDaddy. I have several domains with them and I don't have any complaints. Plus GoDaddy is an ICANN-Accredited Registrar, Namecheap is a reseller. I'm not saying it's bad to be a reseller I just prefer dealing directly with the registarar, that's just me!

I have used Namecheap in the past, and over time, they're support has been slowing down and I already have one support request that's been unanswered for a few days and it's rather important.

But the main reason that keeps me at Namecheap is the Paypal support. Other than that, if any other registrar using PayPal, like 000domains.com (good support, etc.), then I'd go for them.

Progex,
If you had an email go unanswered for more than one day then there is a breakdown somewhere. Customer service is the most important thing that I stress to my employees. Please email me directly at Rick@NameCheap.com so we can figure out why you have not been replied to and we can take action to correct it immediately.

Best,

Richard Kirkendall

Thank you for your kind redirection, Richard.

Things like what Mr. Kirkendall has done for Namecheap.com is another reason why you should go with Namecheap. :stickout:

I would suggest against doing business with enom. Even though I was pleased with their service I'm leaving them because they countinue to do business with Dennis Steyfa (proprietor of hostingtycoon.com h-ost-ing-tyco-on and ****.com s-w-h-u) even though they know that he's doing domain hijacking and committing business fraud.

I have been using namecheap since may this year and I have to say I am very pleased. I have not noticed any downtime or my domain being unreachable or something like that. Their control panel is very easy to use and of course the features are great for such a low price. Unlimited e-mail forwarders and domain forwarding is great. They do not offer a pop3 box, that would be perfect. But that is certainly not a bad thing, I just used a forwarder in combination with a pop3box of my ISP. And it worked perfectly. (I do not use the e-mailforwarding anymore since it is now going through my new host.)
Oh and one last thing, the fact that you can change the name servers of your domain yourself is something I find very usefull, certainly if you have used your domain for testing purposes before placing a website at it like me. :)

Just a note on NameCheap...we've recently started testing a new design out (check your NameCheap control panel for details). If you're going to be comparing NameCheap with another registrar, I suggest you check out the new management system. It will be going completely live in a couple weeks. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this so you (and others) could do an accurate comparison. Thanks!

P.S. The new design won't have that flash banner ;-)

If all that is true about enom and that guy im not sure and have heard nothing about it....

However my experience with them has been great and i would suggest using them because of there reseller options as well. Sign up for a reseller account offered by some resellers on this forum and get your domain names cheaper and have the ability to resale domains along with what ever your doing..

Also it seems that there services are constantly being integrated with control panels and hosting solutions which will make your service offerings easier if you ever descide to do any form of services such as hosting, etc. AND this means that the ease of integration will bring added business to there company making them more stable of an option than some others.

2cents:)

I recommend GoDaddy, as they are having fast servers, the name server changes seem to take effect within minutes. It’s very easy to manage DNS, forwarding, contact info, locking etc, transfers are also easy.

I have a .com site registered and hosted by Godaddy. It's a simple site. I don't know how well Godaddy works with more complicated sites. Server reliability has been excellent. I have Domainsbyproxy privacy protection.
I also have a .net and .org registered with Namecheap that redirect to the .com. Whoisguard privacy protection. So far, no problem.
So i'd say that either Godaddy or Namecheap can be good. Namecheap's privacy protection costs less, and if you have several domains the cost per domain for privacy protection gets lower with Namecheap.

Both are almost same! 3 Registrars drop in the same category...
