View Full Version : Selecting a New Host

I currently have three sites hosted at phpwebhosting. Currently they've been nothing but problems unfortunately. So the time comes again to select a new host. I'm currently looking at:

Site5.com
Dot5Hosting.com
Hostrocket.com

Support and uptime are key (at under $20). Does anyone have any gripes about these hosts? Any others that I should be aware of that are at the top of the ladder?

Thanks.

They all suck. its that simple. Soem ***** in their mothers house rents a server form some other ***** and he's a host. I've been using a guy and ask politely for months to correct some basic issues. I get lip. and after months his response is to refund my money. he has not even tried to fix the problem> he is just hoping it will go away and he wont have to "read" something. But when it does not its the customer being rude and he shuts off the account. Luckily this time i have made some legal contacts and saved all of the emails, going both ways.

Point is, hosts suck. they are, for the most part, modern day scam artitists and the only way to be safe is to shut them down. I'll be back soon slamming this ******* that has ignored requstes for normal service for MONTHS. let the suits begin.

They all have a good name from what I've seen. Although I've never used any of them and basing my opinion purely what I've seen on this forum, I'd put them in the order you have typed (Site5 at the top).

I can see you're a little angry at the moment so I'll ignore that... hope you've got your flameproof jacket on though ;)

Don't be trying to pass on the idea that from your negative experience with this one particular individual, all hosts "suck."

What has this got to do with dot5hosting, Site5, or HostRocket anyways?

Hi! I would recommend http://www.dixiesys.com this is the last month you can get their cheap plans.

I have been with them for three months now and they have been responsible and up to their promises. The longest time span to answer a support ticket was two hours.

I have had only one problem with them; a problem that has not been fixed for the past two weeks. I am not sure whether it is their fault, but my Ensim stats have been dead for a long time.

The above problem made me frustrated and I decided to look for a new host. I looked at http://myacen.com and http://unitedhosting.co.uk These guys sure know how to do business. I had answers to my pre-sale question within five hours and that means a lot.
I was just about to make my decision, when I talked to a Dixiesys employee and he assured me that everything will be fixed soon. The people at dixiesys have been so friendly and the sense of community is so tangible that I just couldn't make myself leave them.

I use hostrocket currently and my site has been down 3 times in the past 3 weeks for a few minutes at a time, no longer than 1/2 hour. Not devestating but kind of annoying. I haven't had that problem with other hosts in the past.

Well out of those 3 i've been with 1, dot5hosting. I was only with them for about 2 weeks. I joined them while they were having some major problems, my site had an uptime of like 75%. They sort of have it worked out, but on the forums there I still see a few sites going out here and there. They are pretty new, so I think they have a ways to grow. Support is so/so. The reason why is because while they may be extremly nice and quick to respond, they don't don't tell you anything if something gos wrong. Like if your site gos down.. don't know about anyone else, but it would make me a hell of a lot better if they gave me the reason why, and what they are doing to fix it. All the answers I got were "Should be fixed now" etc.

Right now i'm with SimpleNetHosting, great prices and services. I'm very happy with the service. Though I am already thinking of moving again. I want to make a free subdomain redirection service(like ********), but SimpleNet doesn't support it. I'm kind of leaning towards gigabean.com.

Good luck with your search.

Go with HostRocket, should be great being with the host that actually owns and accesses their servers.

I only used dot 5 for a week.
They where having problems at the time.
I will say they where honest and did not charge my CC.
Based upon being honest, guess that should help you.

...Who the hell are you?

As for your question, all of them are pretty reputable, do a quick search and it shouldn't be hard to find out what people think. I don't have any direct experience with any of them, but you likely won't go wrong with whatever you choose.

1 Less of the language please.
2 For at least two of the hosts mentioned I think you'd be better inserting "have a reputation" rather than "are pretty reputable". That would stand up to use of the "Search" function above...

I apologize if you were offended by the language (I thought it was warranted) and, no, I meant to say 'pretty reputable' it doesn't mean they are perfect, and I did suggest doing a search, it just means that people seem to be happy with them (as far as I've seen).

if you are thinking about dot5 you might want to read this. it seems that getting a refund is difficult. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=93776
