View Full Version : Host Reseller is dead, Registrar Unreachable...How Can I Switch DNS?

Hi, everybody!

I'm not technician, can't find any solution on the internet so far.

I'm .co.uk domain user. My site has been down for 3 days because webhost service provider is RIP.

My registrar is unable or unwilling to change my DNS to point it to another host. And my webhost service provider (which is a registrar's reseller) is out-of-business. Access to his site, FTP, webmail, contact and email support...everything is dead! Obviously I can't access domain or DNS settings.

Bye the way, registrar automatically accepts changes to move domain to other registrars.

Is my only solution to ask for a registrar change? I mean, Ask registrar to move my domain to the new host, where SUPPOSEDLY I can point my domain to my new host's nameservers?

Cheers,

Ro.

If your current registrar doesn't allow nameserver changes than yes, you're only option is to transfer the domain to a new registrar.

Contact me if you want more info.

Thanks, mate, but hold on a lil' bit thou.

Problem is, uk_crammie, that I don't even know if my registrar allows or not changes in nameservers. That is because registrar is unwilling or unable to provide any help in that or any other matter: he just deals with resellers -and mine is DEAD it is unreachable! He's been 404 RIP'ed for ages (3 days) :()

Any another suggestions, ideas, comments from the community?

Cheers,

I would contact the registrar, they may be able to assist you if you are the clear owner of the domain, and they may well need "lots" of confirmation information to prove ownership, but at the very least they should be able to help or give you some guidance.

The other option as it is a .UK, try registering and loggin on at Nominet (www.nic.uk) and do it as the registrant :)

Dude, who is the registrar? If your contact details are listed as the Registrant then you surely can claim your domain name from the registrar.

Contact me if you need more help and I will be happy to help!

Good luck...

Yeah, me too I would definitely contact the registrar but as you can read on title registrar is unreachable: it looks like it's unwilling or unable to solve this problem at a registrant level (not to be confused with registrar (registry)).

Having a .UK is a good idea, specially when you haven't print all your stationery like I did with the .CO.UK domain.

Registrar:
Heart Internet Ltd t/a eXtend [Tag = EXTEND]

Heart Internet Resellers use the eXtend tag for domain registration so they can offer their services without Heart Internet being noticed by final customers.

And yes, you are right. I can contact and ask the Registrar as being a Registrant. Thing is that there was a intermediary in between: the deceased web host provider and Heart Internet is like unreachable from a final customer level.

This is BS.

Cheers,

Ro.

I know heart doesnt have the best track record for support, but, they are reachable :

Live chat here : https://hosted1.whoson.com/chat/chatstart.htm?domain=www.heartinternet.co.uk

Telephone (local rate): 0845 644 7750
Telephone (from outside the UK): 44 115 9342140
Fax (local rate): 0845 644 7740

Or as I suggested go to https://secure.nominet.org.uk/auth/access-your-account.html and put your email address in, the same one that you gave you webhost :)

If all else fails : https://secure.nominet.org.uk/flows/reestablish-identity.html

Thank you very much for taking the time to send this. But unfortunately I already went through Nominet (I have an account but there's no way to change DNS settings but at least THERE'S A WAY to change Registrar ( but costs £11 :( ). Why do I have to pay if Registrar can do this for free?

And Heart Internet's Live Chat, as I said before, is sales oriented, it doesn't provides technical support. They just ask you to login to Reseller control panel.

And I also tried those telephone numbers. They send you to...guess where? Reseller's Control Panel! o______________O !!!!

Is there any Heart Internet Reseller here in this forum?

Cheers,

If you transfer the domain isn't the process used one where the registered owner is contacted via domain owner email from records to verify? I don't think they have any choice about surrendering DNS control as long as you are the regged owner and reachable via the regged email to verify.

I really don't know, but what you said makes sense to me. They should contact me. But am kind of worried with the WHAT IF...registrar isn't available? I mean, eXtend is at the end Heart Internet, but the one that actually did the registration processs was the Heart Internet's Reseller, the now defunct http://www.sky.uk.net

this should be a lesson for everyone to:
a. don't buy from resellers
b. host your dns with 3rd party like freedns.afraid.org

Resellers are a way of life. Some good, some bad. No different in the domain industry than in any other. Or do you milk your own cows and bake your own bread too? ;)

i don't, but if my cow milker or bread bakers go belly-up, i'll go to the next cow milker or bread baker. i won't be stuck with milk or bread that i can't eat/drink.

bad analogy, sorry.

I got a doubt in my mind. Why would a register does not allow to change the nameserver? Even the same happened to me when the host went dead but then I switched to another host. Hopefully I had an backup of my site.

I don't know why they won't allow changes in nameservers, but I guess is has to do with making ruin your life because you are breaching the original contract (i.e. in case you are tied to a monthly payment year-contract).

Anyway, how did you managed to switch to another host?

Everybody,

Thanks! I received a response from the abuse department at Heart Internet. They gave him a ticket and then he contacted me! He sent me direct access to servers at Heart Internet for accessing hosting and domain accounts. So finally I did a back up and a nameservers change!

But I still can't use my webmail server thou.
