mstrkoo 04-14-2010, 11:28 PM Has anyone used whois.com to register their domain or webhost? I am trying to find a good site to register my domains and host them. My website will be a small business selling t-shirts. I have seen a lot of good reviews on enom and hostdime but which other companies would be a better choice? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Encrypted 04-14-2010, 11:31 PM I personally like Moniker. GoDaddy has some nice features, but I'm not a fan of that company. Their business practices are out of whack.
ParagonHost 04-14-2010, 11:44 PM eNom is great we use them as well as OpenSRS ... we have some backend services using Godaddy's infrastructure , but for the most part we have heard too many horror stories with GoDaddy in general. Mainly from our current clients that came from GD.
TBradley 04-15-2010, 12:46 AM eNom.com or NameCheap.com are the way to go. Stay away from GoDaddy.
mstrkoo 04-15-2010, 01:06 AM How about name.com? They are offering extra security called namesafe. Would having this make a big difference? I copied this from their website:
With our new NameSafe VIP service we now offer an additional layer of security - the VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) credential system.
Name.com is proud to be the first ICANN accredited registrar to offer this service. As such, we have been the focus of praise in the press. VeriSign has even published a case-study on our implementation of the VIP service.
What is a VIP credential?
A VIP credential is a device that generates a unique six digit security code required to access your account. Each time you sign into your account, you will enter your username and password as usual. Additionally, you will enter a unique security code generated by your VIP credential. While your username and password provide an initial layer of security, the VIP credential provides a stronger layer of protection because only you possess the credential that generates the unique code that confirms your identity.
Dan Madiou 04-15-2010, 04:48 AM I use sibername.com as web hosting provider and as domain name registrar. They are good
Natcoweb 04-15-2010, 06:32 AM Most providers offer domain name registration services and often provide free or discounted domains as a bonus, that's not bad if you have just a few domain names, for any bigger number it's better to use services of a registrar, Namecheap.com would be my choice.
servicelous 04-15-2010, 06:38 AM I use gandi.net it is the best from my experience.
agustan 04-15-2010, 08:19 AM I've never used whois.com and name.com before.
But, I've been using enom for years without any problems, and been with Godaddy for about 1-2 years so far and have no issue.
I also once registered my friends' domains on NameCheap and they had no complaints about their domains.
HostDime 04-15-2010, 08:19 PM choosing domain name provider is usually much easier as once you register it and they have a good panel you should be good to go.
MTShost 04-15-2010, 10:21 PM name.com goddady.com enom.com networksolutions.com they all good respectable companies
mstrkoo 04-15-2010, 11:12 PM Thanks everyone I will be going with name.com to register my domain!
izumi777 04-15-2010, 11:28 PM I suggest name.com, goddady.com, and enom.com.
UnderHost 04-15-2010, 11:52 PM Dynadot.com cheaper domain, easy control panel, "no sales pushing" on order, no hassle, great API.
DewlanceHosting 04-16-2010, 02:37 AM i am old customer of name.com and namecheap.com, and i am never use any other domain registrar because of lots of risk(like godaddy, lots of rules on transfer domain to other owner, and other problems)
jwebhost 04-16-2010, 06:37 PM TBH, choose a big host to registar your domain, as getting into contact with Whois just takes FOREVER and same with any other main domain bank.
InsDel 04-16-2010, 07:11 PM Dynadot.com cheaper domain, easy control panel, "no sales pushing" on order, no hassle, great API.
+1 for Dynadot. All of my domains are registered there.
(Should this be in the Domain Names forum?)
