View Full Version : Your personal computer
dgessler 12-05-2002, 01:48 PM I'm just curious and taking a little poll on your computer specs. I just bought a gateway which should ship sometime this up coming week and can't wait for it to come in so I can actually play some current games on it.
I configured this computer on gateway's site then went to the gateway store and purchased it:
P4 2.4GHz
120GB HD
128MB nVidia GF4 MX
256MB DDR RAM (will upgrade to 512 right away)
I bought it with a 17" flat panel monitor and a free printer came with it.
The total price was $1,379. I think I got a pretty good deal if comparing to Dell, etc. One thing I love is gateway's online support center.

flitcher 12-05-2002, 01:51 PM Wow, yea that is a pretty good deal. I'm currently running on a system I bought back in November of 2000. Although coming this January I will be building a new system. But I must say, for those specs that is a really good price. That's basically a top-of-the-line PC, and mine when I bought it costed around 2700. Good deal!
KualoJo 12-05-2002, 02:15 PM Just built my own:
AMD XP 2100
512MB RAM
80GB HDD
64MB Graphics Card (128MB was out of stock, but I don't really need it)
I think it came to about £600, which in my mind was a sweet deal. Its got top of the range motherboards, brushed aluminium case (mmmmmm http://www.coolermaster.nl/pruducts/case/atc/atc710_c.htm)
I'm a very happy chappy! :)

30GB hard drive
nVidia GeForce2 MX 32MB
Sound Blaster Live! Value

I have absolutely no idea what it would cost. I got the CPU, motherboard, and memory for free, and the rest (except the cd writer) is like 2 years old :P
IGobyTerry 12-05-2002, 04:33 PM Dell 1.3 GHZ

80 gig hard drive
512DDR Ram

flitcher 12-05-2002, 04:48 PM Hey,
I don't mean to be a thread-jacker, but could anyone point me in the direction of a website that lists up-and-coming releases of computer products/hardware?
mySportsHost 12-05-2002, 05:02 PM Tosbiba Laptop
1GHz Celeron
256MB RAM
15GB Harddrive
I desperatley need a new machine, but laptop prices haven't budged from 3 years ago, much unlike all the new desktops everone has purchased :(.
RobTheGolfer 12-05-2002, 05:19 PM Just built one about 2 weeks ago.
P4 2.4
1 GIG DDR PC2700 Ram
Ge-force 4 MX 420 ( I don't game much )
2 x WD 80 GIG HD 7200 RPM w/ 8 MB Cache
Chieftec Case
Flat Panel Display
Asus P4PE Motherboard
16X DVD
48X CDRW
Rob
Tazzman 12-05-2002, 05:35 PM Just got a second system to play with this week:
Case that is plain cream (looks nice though) but has plenty of room for expansion and a nice rail system for mounting hardware
MSI motherboard with RAID
1300 mhz Duron
512 MB DDR RAM
DVD drive
Soundblaster Live Player 5.1
Geforce 4 440MX with 64 MB of DDR
Floppy drive (naturally)
Good coolermaster CPU cooler
$730 including taxes from the PC shop 5 minutes away on foot. Far better service than any of those online stores. If anything stops working, I just gotta rip it out and the replacement is 5 minutes away (during opening hours, of course). This system included a free 'Power on' button and a 50% discount on the reset button
2 x 80 GIG Western Digital 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE drives
$145 each, going in to striping RAID.
Got them online as one thing that computer shop clearly overcharges on is harddrives, they were close to $200 in the shop.
Netgear Platinum series 5 port switch to build a nice little network with my new PC, my current PC (an XP 1800+ system with about 350 GIGS worth of harddrives in it :stickout: ) and my laptop.
$56 including shipping and taxes.
Could have gotten a Dell or whatever for a few dollars more, only they only seemed to have intel based systems. For that price it would have been a Celeron 1700 mhz with SDram.
P.S. I live in the Netherlands, so hardware prices are generally a tiny bit higher than in the USA, unfortunatly.
